Does it still work? How much effort does it take and how much do you make out of it?
I have a few spare hours a week (contract reduced) so need something to boost income a little (or a lot would be nice!)

It works. I make a couple of hundred a month and spend next to no time doing it, I’ve been doing it just over a year

TheFuckingDogs · 08/11/2020 14:03

Dh did it. He said it does work but he found he had to put an awful lot of time in and it became tedious.
It does work though, is scientifically explained and you can make some money so it’s possibly a good option if you have spare time

Merryoldgoat · 08/11/2020 14:04

I did it for 2/3 months at the end of maternity leave and made around £2.5k

I don’t have time anymore so stopped as you need regular time to do it.

Merryoldgoat · 08/11/2020 14:04

I did find it quite boring after the initial excitement.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 08/11/2020 14:05

I made nearly 30k in 2 years, but it has definitely got harder and now I'm averagong less than £500 a month. I mostly do casino stuff now but that's dying a death and I need more than one set of accounts to make the profit that I do. When it was at it's peak (for me) I spent a out 4-5hrs a day on it. I started when I was a student as a way to supplement our income and try to save for a deposit, but as DH hasn't earned much the last few years (mental health issues) it's mostly been used to keep us going, plus paid for the vehicles and a holiday.
I'd like to give it up and do something else with my time, but we need it at the moment.

Thehop · 08/11/2020 14:06

I can’t make it pay. I keep trying as we really need some extra cash. I even pay a monthly fee to PA to try and work it out.

I think I’m just a bit thick

chunkyrun · 08/11/2020 14:07

I did it on mat leave, made around 50quid a week. You have to put quite a lot of money in and it's time consuming.

ButtWormHole · 08/11/2020 14:07

Yes it really does work. As long as you don’t make a mistake which is rare to make

MinnieJackson · 08/11/2020 14:09

What exactly is matched betting? Can you get addicted to it? Can you lose loads?

porkandbeans · 08/11/2020 14:10

You definitely make money but it's quite labour intensive and boring in the end. Paid my credit card off and got a holiday out of it though.

MalorieSnooty · 08/11/2020 14:10

I tried it for a couple of weeks and made some money but found it annoying having to sign up to all the betting apps and getting all their emails Confused I will probably try again at Christmas

MrsMime · 08/11/2020 14:11

It does work - I did it for a few months a few years ago and made around £700. It gets harder once you've done all the newbie offers and that's when I stopped as I didn't really have the time anymore and had made the money I wanted but it's in the back of my mind to go back to if needed.

TheScreamingLady · 08/11/2020 14:13

I did it 4 years ago and made around £4K. I’ve given up now though as the offers have become much more time consuming and it’s less profitable than it was.

Hayeahnobut · 08/11/2020 14:18

I did find it quite boring after the initial excitement.

It's not meant to be exciting. If you've done it correctly you know exactly what outcome you'll get, so there's nothing to be excited about.

Matched betting is about maths, not betting. Betting is addictive. Maths is not exciting!

HilaryBriss · 08/11/2020 14:50

I started in Aug 2018 and made around 8K in 18 months. I don't do it anymore as I have been gubbed (lost my eligibility to special offers) by most of the bookies.

skippy67 · 08/11/2020 14:56

Yes it works. I made £900 in about 2 months without putting that much work in. Dd 19, does it too. Useful money for her as she's at uni.

JockTamsonsBairns · 08/11/2020 15:15

It definitely works. It's much more about maths rather than betting, so you do need to be quite mathematically minded to make it work I think. DH does it, and makes around £500 a month for about one hour's worth of work a few evenings a week. I can't do it as i can't get my head round it at all.

Pamelaaaaa · 08/11/2020 15:18

I did it for about a year and made 4k. It became pointless once the offers ran out and I had been gubbed by the biggest bookies.

SomeSmotheringDreams · 08/11/2020 15:21

DH did it as a hobby and was making about £800 a month from it it. The bookmakers stopped him from betting as a result.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/11/2020 15:24

I only made about £400 over about 6 months. I wasn’t very good at it though. I got gubbed by a few and couldn’t be bothered to do all the sign ups. I think in general it isn’t as easy as when the first people started doing it.

I enjoyed the excitement of it to start with, couldn’t believe it was so easy to make free money, but the sums I was making were so small - £3.80 from a £5 free bet, I couldn’t seem to make many big sums, and found I couldn’t be bothered after a few months.

pistolknight · 08/11/2020 15:24

I made about 45000 over 3 years so it does work

StillStriving · 08/11/2020 15:24

DH and I did it as students and probably made £10k or so in about 6 months. It was labour intensive but we put in the hours we would have spent behind a bar or in a call centre and we just got to be at home together in our pants so we liked it.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/11/2020 17:16

I started in Feb this year, made £400 over Cheltenham week and then stopped.

It was very time consuming and I had a lot of money tied up with bookies. When all the sport stopped I was terrified they'd all go under so pulled everything out.

I set up a completely separate email account just for betting so I can ignore the gazillions of emails

safariboot · 08/11/2020 17:31

You can make money but it takes work. And I've been finding slim pickings from existing bookies lately, but there's always signup offers, but check the bookie is reputable! I was taking it slow and steady about £100 a month but even that's fallen off in recent months.

Provided you don't make mistakes and don't get ripped off by a scam bookmaker, the profit is guaranteed with the simple offers. It's not megabucks though.

It's best to use a separate bank account for it so you don't clutter your main account with bookmaker transactions. And you'll need some money available to start with, £50 is doable but more is better.

Pumpkinstace · 08/11/2020 17:54

Yes it works but you need to know exactly what your doing.

You need to know how it works so you can fix mistakes. I wouldn't recommend just following instructions, because if you do make a mistake you won't have the knowledge to fix it or do damage limitation.

It's maths, done correctly you know the exact profit or qualifying loss before the result it's even in.

It gets harder once you've gone through the sign up offers and you need a decent float, the money you make can be tied up for a while as you build your float up.

I started with 300 quid and built my float to around 2k before spending any profits. The bigger the float the faster you can make money really.

Also, use a separate bank account and email, so your everyday ones don't get cluttered.
