To wonder if matched betting does really pay off

Does it still work? How much effort does it take and how much do you make out of it?
I have a few spare hours a week (contract reduced) so need something to boost income a little (or a lot would be nice!)

I make between £500 and £750 a month, i've been doing it for over a year. The majority of this is from the casino side. I do spend a couple of hours a day and like others have said i definitely recommend a separate email and bank account.

Calmandmeasured1 · 08/11/2020 18:26

My nephew does it full time. I don't know how much he makes but I do know he makes a good living from it.

lobster8 · 08/11/2020 18:35

I did it for 2/3 months a couple of years ago and made 2.5k. I was probably spending about 10-15 hours a week on it though. I also had a student loan at this point so once I got my head around it was able to put a couple of grand in as my bank, which meant I could earn quicker. I stopped as it became too time consuming and I got bored, however I still do the odd casino offer I get via email if it's a very good one.

CaptainMerica · 08/11/2020 18:47

The first 2k is easy money, then it gets harder to the point where I found I'd get more per hour doing a bit of overtime.

To make money long term, you really need to do casino and "2 up" type offers, which involve a bit of up and down rather than guaranteed money. It is still statistically in your favour, but you need the bank and the nerve to ride the variance.

Bookies are getting better and better at spotting it, and banning you from offers quickly too.

ViciousJackdaw · 09/11/2020 00:45

There's a forum called The Money Shed where they love talking about MB and will help any newbie out.

chachachia · 09/11/2020 01:01

I made 3k in about 6 months, so it can work. It;s important you find a reputable site to learn from and make sure you understand everything fully before making a bet

FloraButterCookie · 09/11/2020 01:06

I tried but was 2 time consuming for me. Selling on Amazon is how I supplement my income now

FloraButterCookie · 09/11/2020 01:07

Too ^

StillStriving · 10/11/2020 08:08

@FloraButterCookie where did you learn about selling on Amazon out of interest? I'd like to read about that.

cluecu · 10/11/2020 08:27

Keep meaning to do this! Does it impact your credit score?

Borlotti · 10/11/2020 08:32

I made 14k in my first year of doing it, however I'm now gubbed from most bookmakers and don't have as many offers to do.
I'm lucky to make £100 a month now, but that 14k came in really handy at a time when we, as a family really needed it.

checkingforballoons · 10/11/2020 08:35

Can I ask how much money people put in to start with? I’d like to try it but I’m cautious!

FloraButterCookie · 10/11/2020 08:35

@StillStriving I first heard of it through a lady called Sophie Howard, I signed up for her free guide but I didn’t sign up her course though because it was very expensive. So I created an account on Amazon Seller Central myself and kinda winged it lol. (Loads of YouTube videos out there). I buy stock & sell it on, very possible to turn 6 figures annually on Amazon. If you need any help feel free to give me a shout 😊

Borlotti · 10/11/2020 09:34

@checkingforballoons, I started off with only £60 and slowly built up from there. The more money you have to start the better though as it's quicker to get through the offers.
I'm incredibly cautious too and spent 3 days plucking up the courage to start and learning as much as I could about it.
It was worth the effort though as like I said earlier, I made 14k in my first year.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 10/11/2020 10:04

I started with about £300 but you can start with less. Separate bank account essential, easy to get online one like Starling or Metro.

Fascinated by the Amazon selling, do you have to handle/package stuff or is it like drop shipping?

Ohdeariedear · 10/11/2020 10:19

I did it for a while and made about 2500 and we had a nice holiday out of it. I didn’t get on with it though, made lots of mistakes and found it time consuming. I dabble in Casino now but you absolutely have to have the right mindset for it - you have to be able to stop exactly once you’ve completed the offers and not get sucked into gambling. I probably get 50-100 a month out of it.

AlternativePerspective · 10/11/2020 10:25

I liken matched betting to MLM.

AlternativePerspective · 10/11/2020 10:26

Sorry posted too soon.

I liken matched betting to MLM, although with matched betting you don’t need to alienate all your friends and family ;)

But in terms of earning, some people make decent money at it, most don’t.

MissScarletInTheSnug · 10/11/2020 10:30

@AlternativePerspective

I liken matched betting to MLM.
How so?

It is absolutely nothing like MLM which requires people to recruit others to make money.

Matched betting is mathematical analysis of back and lay bet stats to qualify for a free bet to which you do the same thing. It definitely is not gambling either.

pistolknight · 10/11/2020 11:22

How is it like an mlm @AlternativePerspective Confused it's like anything though if you put time and effort in you get money back. Most people would be able to give it a decent go, I started with 100

stevalnamechanger · 10/11/2020 11:23

I made 1000 in the first few weeks and a couple of hundred a month from there onwards .

If you want to make more you have to get your head around complex offers and I'm too lazy 😂😂

Lots of great facebook groups

Lauren1983 · 10/11/2020 11:28

Matched betting is nothing like a MLM. If you do the homework and follow the guides correctly and dont attempt it until you understand it you will have zero chance of losing money.

Helloyouthere · 10/11/2020 11:31

My hubby did it a few years ago, for a few years. We made ALOT of money out ot it, it does work.

If your making a lot you need to have a lot of money tied up. We ended up having to have a spreadsheet of where money was as we had money spread over about 30 bookies. We stopped in the end as it took up a lot of time, offers ran out and we got banned from a few due to the amount of money taken out of them.

Its good (but quite complex) if you need money for a holiday, Christmas etc but it isn't long term. I don't think you could do it for more than a year or two x

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/11/2020 11:45

You can make money off it but you need to put the hours in.
DP and I have been doing it for a few months and made about £300. Could easily have been more but we've been a bit slack recently! It's also trickier to find good bets when there aren't a lot of sports on.
DP does a lot of sports betting as a hobby so is very knowledgeable already which is a big help but we've both had to learn a lot.
We started with a float of about £100.

I think if you have spare time, the discipline to stick with it, and are reasonably numerate then it's possibly to make a few hundred quid fairly easily and quickly.

I also now have a nice little sideline in the free spins/games that lots of the bookies offer. I'm making about £10 a month off the freebies...not loads but it literally takes me less than 5 mins a day and there's no risk involved as you don't stake anything.

oneglassandpuzzled · 10/11/2020 11:48

@Hayeahnobut

I did find it quite boring after the initial excitement.

It's not meant to be exciting. If you've done it correctly you know exactly what outcome you'll get, so there's nothing to be excited about.

Matched betting is about maths, not betting. Betting is addictive. Maths is not exciting!

I’ve been doing it on and off for five years and agree that it is boring. I wasn’t looking for thrills, just extra cash. But it’s dull work after a few years.
