To ask if you still consider 30 young

Just to settle a debate I’ve had with someone.

OP posts:
DickBastardly · 08/11/2020 11:00

I personally would consider 30 young. I think mid 50's is the cut off for me for considering a person to be old, depending on if they look good for their age or not at that age.

cremeeggsonboxingday · 08/11/2020 11:00

Yes.

Mintjulia · 08/11/2020 11:01

Yes. I was still living in London, single, international job, no ties at that age.

Took me another decade to grow up Smile

Neolara · 08/11/2020 11:02

Yes. Definitely. But it's all relative I guess. Thirty seem incredibly young.

BuffaloCauliflower · 08/11/2020 11:02

I’m 32 and I think I’m young

amusedbush · 08/11/2020 11:02

I turned 30 in May and I feel young. More settled and confident than I did ten years ago, but still young.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 08/11/2020 11:03

From the perspective of someome who is nearly double the age of 30, yes I do. But I would also expect 30 year olds to have grown up and found their path in life and be capable of looking after themselves without parental input (if NT of course).

Oysterbabe · 08/11/2020 11:03

If the options are young or old then it's young.

Alicenwonderland · 08/11/2020 11:04

If you're younger than 30 it's old, if you're older than 30 it's young! 😂 (42 year old)

sansou · 08/11/2020 11:04

Young from the perspective of a 49 yr old.
Old from the perspectives of a 16 yr old.

NetflixWatcher · 08/11/2020 11:04

I'm in my 30s and I dont consider it young. My early 20s sister is young and fresh and carefree. 30s is Marriage and kids and mortgages. I'm well old.

Nogoodusername · 08/11/2020 11:04

Yep, but I’m 40

NickMyLipple · 08/11/2020 11:05

I'm 31 but work with kids and they think I'm old 😂

I would say I was young.

throwaway10000 · 08/11/2020 11:05

Old from the perspective of someone younger

I hope when I reach 30 that my life would be completely different than it is now (early 20s).

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/11/2020 11:06

37 and hope to god I'm not past it. I've had my kids young though, all coming up for teenagers now so I'm ready for my life to begin.

Redwolf1 · 08/11/2020 11:06

I'm 30, married with kids and very settled, sometimes I feel old as I'd rather crochet with a film then go out partying but i have friends my age who still love that scene. Also at my dds school (shes 5) im one of the youngest mums which makes me feel young. I'm guna say yes, 30 is young

LG101 · 08/11/2020 11:06

No I don’t think I would, I think young is before 25. I wouldn’t say someone who is 30 is young. It’s too close to middle age, if we live to 70-80 then middle age is 35-40.

FourEyesGood · 08/11/2020 11:09

It all depends on context. 30 is old to be getting a first job or starting university, but young in lots of other ways. It’s neither young nor old for, say, getting married or having a baby.

EmeraldShamrock · 08/11/2020 11:16

Another for 18-25 is young.
It depends on the situation 30 is young for many firsts not so much for others depending on what you want.
If your leaving finding a partner and want 5 DC until 30 it's late or starting a career that requires a Masters when you only have A levels it is late neither impossible.
30 is young overall.

GreekOddess · 08/11/2020 11:16

Yes there was another thread earlier about what age people consider elderly.

Outlook, lifestyle and health obviously vary on an individual level but generally I would say that:-

18-39 is young. At this stage people are having children, not always decided on career, little sign of ageing in the average person.

40-59 is middle aged. Children growing up, career minded people will be moving up the ladder, moving up the property ladder for those that own properties, having to work harder to stay fit to prevent weight issues.

60-79 is senior. Children have flown the nest, grandchildren on the scene, slowing down career wise. Most people at this age are still active, enjoying travelling and time for hobbies.

80 + is elderly. Health issues becoming more common, the number of friends/acquaintances that you know from school is diminishing. Not all doom and gloom though! My mum is is in this age bracket and until the pandemic had an active social life and liked to travel. The pandemic has affected her quite badly and she is quite low and depressed which I've not seen in her before though.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 08/11/2020 11:20

It depends what you're talking about.

If you said a 30 year old was having a baby, I wouldn't consider that young to be starting a family, if you said a 30 year old was a judge I would conisder that young for that role.

It's all relative.

Ifailed · 08/11/2020 11:26

I wouldn't describe a 30 year old as a young woman/man.

emptydreamer · 08/11/2020 11:31

I re-read Anna Karenina recently (first time since teenage years, I am mid-30s), and was horrified that everyone in the book is younger than me.

VettiyaIruken · 08/11/2020 11:33

I'm pushing 50 and yes, I look at 30 years old and see them as young.
Not young as in childish, just young.

LindaEllen · 08/11/2020 11:44

I have recently turned 30 and had a bit of a crisis about it, because to me it SOUNDS old, but I certainly FEEL young, and I think I still act young too.

I then figured that it's just a number and doesn't really matter. You should just keep living life and reaching your goals, and not let age define what you can and can't achieve.
