Just to settle a debate I’ve had with someone.

OP posts:
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/11/2020 11:45

Yes. I consider 53 young. That will become 54 in March .....

Branleuse · 08/11/2020 11:48

its young to die, young to go through menopause, young to retire.

its old to have a first kiss, old to leave home etc

JeVoudrais · 08/11/2020 11:51

I'm 28 with a three month old and I feel old! But in reality I know I am young. Sleep deprivation and many hours of life spent on the sofa feeding or holding a baby whilst they sleep takes a toll on your fitness/creakiness though.

Pantheon · 08/11/2020 11:52

In terms of average life expectancy, it's young. But it's not 'carefree young' like early 20s is imo

altiara · 08/11/2020 12:07

No, I wouldn’t say it’s young - living for 30 years, being an adult for 12 years. Definitely not young. But not old.
And also like others have said context is important.

AlexaShutUp · 08/11/2020 12:09

Yes, of course - it is definitely still young!

LazyFace · 08/11/2020 12:10

I'm 43 and still young. Middle age for me starts at 50.

VeggieSausageRoll · 08/11/2020 12:11

I'm 31 and feel young. Married, kids, management level job but I still don't feel like a "grown up" 🤷‍♀️

WhySoSensitive · 08/11/2020 12:17

I hope so because I’m only 29.

However, i FEEL old, my body aches and it takes me ages to recover from any injury or illness.

ShottaSheriff · 08/11/2020 12:23

Yep, 30 is still young but it’s also the start of not being young, if that makes sense?! Between 30-40 is a period of steady but manageable decline and then over 40 is on the downward slope through a prolonged period of middle age to being old. I think that at some point being old stops being solely about age and starts being about the level of good health and well-being that you enjoy.

theconstantinoplegardener · 08/11/2020 12:30

Yes, 30 is young. I agree with @GreekOddess's classification.

IndiaMay · 08/11/2020 12:39

I'm 30 next year and I feel like that's getting old. I've had a mortgage for 5 years and I should have been married this year (damn lockdown). I need a job to pay a mortgage, I almost have a husband, I have a life insurance policy, I have responsibilities, my biological clock is running out, I've travelled a lot and seen a lot of things, it's been years since i graduated. My parents had me in their very early 20s though which makes somewhat of a difference. I have clear memories of my parents at 30 and I thought they were 'old' then.

LST · 08/11/2020 12:48

I'm 30. Had my kids at 21 and 23. I feel really old. But I suffer terribly from RA, so that is probably why. In my mind I'm still 18

ReggaetonLente · 08/11/2020 12:50

Depends. Young to be a grandmother, yes.

Young to take GCSEs, no.

Its all relative

doadeer · 08/11/2020 12:50

I'm 30 and feel young! I still get ID'd all the time.

But I suppose I don't feel young in the same way I did when I was 18

SerenityFlowers · 08/11/2020 12:52

Why not ask this on your other thread about whether 60 is 'old'? Perhaps your next thread title could be 'is 40 middle aged?'

MrsToothyBitch · 08/11/2020 12:55

I'm 30 and I still consider myself young!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 08/11/2020 12:55

I'm 33 and don't feel young. Second marriage and teenage children make me feel older and more responsible.

Imapotato · 08/11/2020 12:56

I’m 35 and still consider myself young. My teenage kids still consider me young too. I think this is because I’m am young in comparison to most of their friends parents, some of which could be my parents!

That said I’m pretty sure my 21 year old sister thinks I’m really old Grin

Imapotato · 08/11/2020 12:57

I also look young. Most people think I’m 10 years younger than I actually am Grin

JaneJeffer · 08/11/2020 12:58

I think mid 50's is the cut off for me for considering a person to be old, depending on if they look good for their age or not at that age.
What have looks got to do with it?

BiBabbles · 08/11/2020 13:01

I just think of 30 as adult. I don't really automatically classify it further unless like DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult we're talking about a specific situation - a 30-year-old year old judge is young, 30 is getting on the older side for professional athletes in many sports, and for having kids, it's average.

I don't really think it has much to do with how I felt at certain ages - that varies on the day - though I do find with other people, if they're closer to my oldest DC's age than mine, I do mentally shift them as being young, but that might change as he gets out of his teen years.

Mrsjayy · 08/11/2020 13:02

Who said 30 is middle aged that made me laugh 😆 of course 30 is still young it doesn't mean irresponsible or immature but young.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 08/11/2020 13:03

I'm 30 next month - I bloody hope it is still viewed as young, seeing as I haven't had babies yet, haha.

I'm a big believer in the saying "you're only as old as you feel".

Skysblue · 08/11/2020 13:06

Nope. Thirty is not young.
