To ask if you still consider 30 young

Just to settle a debate I’ve had with someone.

OP posts:

I think it is, because you still have time to have children and do a BA etc. You have time to turn debt around and still get a 25 year mortgage. You still happily go on the piss with people in their early 20's. Around 34, I think that stops. Or it does in the groups that I see. I know my Son In Law (35) is starting to refer to those in their 20's as 'kids'.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/11/2020 13:11

Not another age thread OP, you did 1 last night too.

newnewnewbuild · 08/11/2020 13:33

In general yes, but surely it depends what it's in relation to?

Is 30 considered young to...
Buy a house?
Have a baby?
Get married?
Learn to drive?
Retire?
Become a millionaire?
To start a college course?
To change your career?
To become a grandma?
To start a business?

Context is needed surely

VestaTilley · 08/11/2020 13:34

Yes, definitely- especially given life expectancy nowadays.

MiaMarshmallows · 08/11/2020 13:39

I remember turning 35 and feeling old. Now I am early fifties I laugh at myself Wink

5zeds · 08/11/2020 13:40

Yes. I was very “young” at 30.

jennie0412 · 08/11/2020 13:42

Sort of. I think it's when you start to grow up though. Speaking as a teenager, I obviously consider it older than some people on here will, but I think it's young enough that if you wanted to make a major career change etc you could definitely do it. However when you're in your 40's I think that starts to get a bit harder.

Busybusybust · 08/11/2020 13:42

gppd heavens yes! But I am 70 next year.

OptimisticSix · 08/11/2020 13:50

At 40 something yes I consider it young, at 18 I would have thought it quite old.

Hadjab · 08/11/2020 14:02

In what context?

Hanging out in the park, at the local playground, drinking Thunderbird on the roundabout - too old.

President of the United Nations - too young (possibly).

NancysDream · 08/11/2020 14:19

30 is when you indisputably become a grown up. So you can't use being "young" as an excuse anymore. You're not old. Just grown and in the prime of your life for the next 20 ish years until middle age

throwaway10000 · 08/11/2020 14:50

No one thinks 30 is ancient, just that there’s a distinction between a 30 year old and a younger adult. You wouldn’t place an 18 year old and 30 year old in the same category, there’s a cut off at some point.

liky · 08/11/2020 15:02

Yes, but I'm older

rorosemary · 08/11/2020 15:03

Depends on the context. Overall, it's young (younger than most living people at the moment). But it's much too old to date a teenager for example.

SandyY2K · 08/11/2020 15:09

It depends on the context of what's being said and who's saying it.

A 18 yo would probably think a 30 year old is old...I did at that age.

Ingridla · 08/11/2020 23:39

God yes, very young still

DaddysGirlForLife · 08/11/2020 23:40

I'm 30. Gosh I feel old! But yes it is young.

Holothane · 09/11/2020 00:00

Considering it’s 24 years since I was 30 I now consider it young.

Even as a teen/kid I never saw 30 as old, just adult. Because it’s simply not and really quite bizarre of anyone to think that. It’s young but adult enough that you should have your shit together.
