I'm sat doubting my own intelligence here....

Cooking food in the oven (for example fish fingers), we always put the food onto tin foil on a baking tray. Is this not normal? A friend just saw me doing it with oven chips and looked at me like I was nuts? I occasionally would use baking paper depending on what we have in the drawer....

Our oven is currently playing up and not heating food in the middle, friend suggested the fault was because I use tin foil.

I don't use any foil at all, interested to see if I'm meant to though! (Or if you're the weird one) 😀

boabab · 07/11/2020 21:07

Your friend ain't so smart lol

3rdNamechange · 07/11/2020 21:09

No never on a baking tray. Usually put foil in the grill if doing bacon so any fat gets caught.

Coldilox · 07/11/2020 21:09

It won’t be affecting the cooking, but why would you use it? Must create so much waste

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 07/11/2020 21:09

I don't do it but people do. That's that. It's kt weird, you do it your way, l do it mu way, it's just chips in an oven, has she not better things to think about

1Morewineplease · 07/11/2020 21:09

Ive taken to lining baking trays as my trays are no longer non stick.
Wish I'd always done tbh.

FippertyGibbett · 07/11/2020 21:10

No, no need if non stick.

Newmumatlast · 07/11/2020 21:11

I don't use it often at all tbh as I just put things directly onto a clean tray

Holdmysandwichplease · 07/11/2020 21:11

I guess I use it because my mother always did 😳 means the trays underneath are nice and clean. Doesn't tend to create much waste tbh as we don't swap it every time and don't make things like fish fingers etc often (I'm usually making casseroles etc if that makes sense or things on the hob)

Newmumatlast · 07/11/2020 21:11

Should say I still dont think you're being unreasonable

Spied · 07/11/2020 21:11

I've never used foil to line the baking tray.
My dgm and mum do though.

Leaannb · 07/11/2020 21:12

Ots not the fault of the foil. Aluminum helps distribute heat evenly and makes clean up easier. I always use it

LEELULUMPKIN · 07/11/2020 21:13

I do it so I don't have to wash the tray!

Bbub · 07/11/2020 21:13

I always use foil, and recycle it an embarrassing number of times to be honest Blush

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/11/2020 21:13

I mostly recycle the foil trays that food comes in from the supermarket - surprising how many times they can be reused. I rarely cook stuff directly on the tray - cleaning can be such a nightmare.
You can also get reusable teflon liners that are great for cutting down on waste.

Holdmysandwichplease · 07/11/2020 21:14

Potentially the heat issue is that I need to clean my oven (hangs head in shame)!

Svelteinmydreams · 07/11/2020 21:15

I am a fan. Hate washing sticky trays. But not for chips - just for chicken, fish etc.

picklemewalnuts · 07/11/2020 21:15

I use teflon liners if there's going to be any mess. Saves buying and binning foil.

Think you need to leave the oven on longer or turn it up. Could the fan have gone?

Holdmysandwichplease · 07/11/2020 21:16

I'm glad to see i am not a complete weirdo for using foil :-) in the interests of complete honesty i did do a Google before posting and the first thing that came up was aluminium poisoning... I didn't read further as my mind was panicking at the thought of having poisoned us all for years (logic clearly wasn't kicking in for me)

PinkSkyBlue · 07/11/2020 21:16

Your not alone. I always use foil!

majesticallyawkward · 07/11/2020 21:16

I tend to use the reusable liners rather than foil because I'm too lazy to scrub the trays but also try to avoid creating waste. And it stops the food sticking.

Holdmysandwichplease · 07/11/2020 21:16

Off to look at Teflon liners !

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/11/2020 21:17

I got myself silicone lining now. I used to use baking paper.

Nah. The oven isn't playing up because of the tin foil😁

chickenyhead · 07/11/2020 21:18

I use foil.

Have also used silicone mats, but foil is easier

MushMonster · 07/11/2020 21:18

I do not use it regularly, but nothing wrong with doing so.
