Being pointed out thats a Hatch Act violation

The Hatch Act of 1939, An Act to Prevent Pernicious Political Activities, is a United States federal law. Its main provision prohibits civil service employees in the executive branch of the federal government, except the president and vice president, from engaging in some forms of political activity.

Kayleigh McNinny "speaking in her personal capacity" so why does she expect WH press to turn up if she's not being Press Secretary?

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 22:12

Not much in this but Mitch backing Trump after Barr meeting. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election-2020/mitch-mcconnell-donald-trump-support-voter-fraud-election-b1719967.html

BruceAndNosh · 09/11/2020 22:13

What venue is being used for this non press Secretary press briefing

AcrossthePond55 · 09/11/2020 22:13

My my my. Is it possible that Fox is beginning to think it's wrung the last bit of ratings out of Scrotus and his minions so no longer want to pander to them?

Are they realizing that Scrotus is yesterday's news?

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2020 22:18

It looks like the leadership of the GOP are going to back Trump's claim that the election was rigged and not recognise Biden as president elect.

To understate this simply: This is a Very Bad Thing. A Very Very Bad Thing.

(Are we properly at the Treason and Attempted Coup definitions in law yet? This way lies civil war...)

PerkingFaintly · 09/11/2020 22:20

@RedToothBrush

10mins or so ago. Press Secretary cut off by Fox.

Mark Casci @markcasci
Fox News just cut off the White House briefing citing its lack of veracity. Incredible.

Shock

Strewth. The Fox really has turned.

Well I suppose Murdoch's all about backing the winner...

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2020 22:20

Nate Silver @natesilver538
It's hard to tell whether GOP leaders are being strategic and cynical (e.g. hoping to keep their base excited) when indulging claims of election-rigging, or are just wholly disconnected from reality. But in some ways I wonder if it's even possible to distinguish between the two.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 22:22

This is not good at all. Surely they don't think this is what Americans want? What do they think will be the end result? What do they think the Democrats will do? Where are their morals?

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2020 22:25

Jim Acosta @acosta
A source close to the president tells CNN Trump and his top aides did have discussions about firing the FBI director Christopher Wray that occurred prior to the election. The conversations about firing Wray appeared to hinge on Trump winning the election, I am told.

Trump was more likely to have taken such a move had he beaten Joe Biden, I’m told. Wray was one of a number of top administration officials whose firings were discussed, the source said.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 09/11/2020 22:32

Word is Trump had not forgiven Esper after he refused to bring the military in during the BLM protests. Trump next pick will be someone who is cool deploying troops on the streets. Not a good sign.

Eli Yokley @eyokley
NEW: About a third of Republican voters now say they trust the U.S. elections system, half the share who said the same in our pre-election survey.

Trust among Democratic voters increased over the same period.

I'm just pondering now if the republicans will deliberately boycott the georgia senate race and give the democrats the senate in order to try to discredit the legitimacy of the entire Biden administration?

Honestly the news tonight should be terrifing people.

This is not good.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 22:37

How is it good for Republicans to have a lunatic in the WH?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 09/11/2020 22:38

Pence heading to Florida for a little beach time, tomorrow through Saturday, I'm told.

@ZekeJMiller earlier reported FAA alert on scheduled travel.

"President goes to Palm Beach; I go to Sanibel Island," @VP in February. "We love going there. Been going there for 30 years."

I know. As we said previously, Trump is a family destroyer writ large.

The most dangerous time is when you leave him.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 09/11/2020 22:41

This is all utterly terrifying. I had worried about this election leading to civil unrest and even civil war and I remain very scared.

RedToothBrush · 09/11/2020 22:44

John Kruzel @johnkruzel
This rather chilling prediction comes from an email exchange I had in SEPTEMBER with a former top Pentagon official who served in high level govt roles in several previous admins:^

“The period between November 3 and January 20 promises to be the most anarchic in our history...

...”Whatever the outcome is, it will be regarded by a significant portion of our population as illegitimate.”

QuestionableDanceMoves · 09/11/2020 22:44

This move by the GOP leadership is bone chilling. Why the hell are they backing these baseless claims?
Are they all that terrified of him? All as equally delusional? Or does he have enough dirt on them to bring them all down with him?

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 22:49

I just can't understand why they are risking trashing their own democracy. Is it the last stand of the white man?

Geoff Bennett @geoffrbennett
About those #USPS delivery delays, something to keep in mind:

A future President Biden cannot fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

DeJoy serves at the pleasure of the Postal Service Board of Governors, all of whom are Trump appointees.

Biden would have to nominate new Board members when vacancies arise. The Senate would have to confirm each one, and it's not yet clear which party will have control.

DeJoy has signaled he'll restore his delay-causing policies once a court order lifts at the end of November.

So we could potentially see another round of #USPS service slowdowns in time for the Georgia Senate runoff *and during a potential COVID winter surge, during which more people will be relying on timely delivery than ever.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/11/2020 22:54

These senior republicans have seriously lost it. Your power comes from the integrity of the electoral process assholes - where do you think this ends up?

Are they going to make it impossible for Biden to govern? Refuse to approve his entire cabinet? They do seem to be staring down the barrel at a serious constitutional crisis

QuestionableDanceMoves · 09/11/2020 22:55

It just gets worse!! How can someone openly admit to wanting to deploy delay-causing policies that will knowingly interfere with an election and just be allowed to do it!?

The jubilation I’ve felt since Saturday is slipping away

BruceAndNosh · 09/11/2020 22:56

So the GOP is putting party before State
What they don't realise is that Trump is putting himself before party.

Apileofballyhoo · 09/11/2020 22:57

Watching an ad on I think Fox but might be NBC, DH switches a lot. That actor who played the main guy in Falcon Crest is asking people to buy gold so that they'll feel safer. Dangerous forces are tearing our country apart.

I've seen his ads before but they didn't have the same tone.
