They’ve only been and gone and done it.

Very true @RedToothBrush . His real opportunities for action won't come until January. Between now and then we'll hopefully see a lot of good plans and good people being put on committees and such.

Potustrumpnomore · 08/11/2020 02:41

This should be plastered everywhere for trumptys viewing 😂

He comes from a career of collaboration. This isn't a new thing for him. I think, for the most part, he'll maintain it.

But he also comes across as someone able to stand his ground, if necessary.

HoldMyLobster · 08/11/2020 02:47

I loved that Biden ran down the ramp Grin

Blueberries0112 · 08/11/2020 03:02

It will be hard when everyone is so divided. Even Trump couldn't get some things done

lovelemoncurd · 08/11/2020 03:03

Placemarking. Looking forward to the next phase.

TheClaws · 08/11/2020 03:13

YAY! WineWineWineWine So amazingly, incredibly happy. It simply feels wonderful that some positivity has returned to the arena; some sensibility. I'm a bit overwhelmed really.

BlueCatRedCat · 08/11/2020 04:12

Don Lemon very emotional this evening, talking about how he and the whole nation have ptsd from Trump, and it's no wonder there is this great outpouring of emotion on the streets.

Kaitlan Collins reporting from WH sources that Jared has been tasked to persuade Trump to concede. He gets all the best jobs. Reporting that Trump is not budging.

BlueCatRedCat · 08/11/2020 04:14

Also, Anderson Cooper was quite emotional too earlier, saying how much he regrets saying the obese turtle thing about Trump. I think Biden's message of reconciliation is making everyone find their better selves.

lyralalala · 08/11/2020 05:43

Don and Chris Cuomo were getting a bit feisty with each other.

Jared Kushner must be panicking. He’s the one that put together Trump’s legal team and by all accounts he was pivotal in the pandemic reaction (or non-reaction) as well.

Trump will not hesitate to throw people under the bus if needs be and Jared isn’t one of his sons. Trump was said to be not overly impressed by Ivanka’s choice of husband originally. If trump thinks Jared is responsible for this, and probably for scuppernong Ivanka’s political ambitions, he’ll not be his favourite son-in-law anymore

That made me smile too!

Didn’t stay up to watch it it but have just taken up my customary space on the couch in front of CNN.

It was such an eye opener to see everyone getting quite emotional on CNN last night. Even Jake had tears in his eyes. And Van Jones of course - terrible to think there really are people in USA who are afraid to go to Walmart for fear of racial abuse stirred up and encouraged by Trump.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/11/trumps-forever-campaign-is-just-getting-started/617021/
This article in "The Atlantic" about Trump's strategy (for such it is) is scary and interesting. If only he had spent his time and energy working for the good of the whole electorate, as opposed to for himself, these past 4 years, things might have been so different.

Hi @Natsku, lovely to see you back again. Glad all well with you and yours! (I've probably name-changed 100 times since we were last on these threads together, so you won't remember me😉)

Thank you for using my suggested quote by that well known tantruming 6 year old, Violet Elizabeth Bott, from
Richmal Crompton's "Just William" books, @TheNorthWestPawsage ☺️ I feel suitably honoured to have contributed in some small way🤩

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 08/11/2020 06:49

I genuinely can't remember, in my lifetime, headlines saying that countries all round the world are celebrating the election of a new President of the USA. Yet today, we have them!
thehill.com/homenews/campaign/524962-fireworks-in-london-church-bells-in-paris-as-biden-win-celebrated-abroad
To be fair, they are more likely celebrating seeing the back of Trump.

PurpleHoodie · 08/11/2020 07:08

I am so happy at this news.

I've never watched so much CNN and Fox News.

Roussette · 08/11/2020 07:31

Morning all ! Finally caught up on my sleep, it was almost like all the tensions of the last 4 years left me, and I could sleep peacefully. Just waiting for the repeat of Biden's speech on Sky, although I've seen bits of it.

The DT should be ashamed of itself for its article..

'Liner, lashes, lip gloss: the youthful beauty tricks behind Kamala's confidence.
For many women, especially in the public eye, wearing make-up makes them feel more confident and empowered. They don’t call it ‘war paint’ for nothing'

here

Is that the best they can do? Not a mention of the fact she is the first woman as VP and a WOC at that.
Pathetic

Roussette · 08/11/2020 07:43

Interestingly....
As counting is still going on... in Pennsylvania
The latest release of ballots from Allegheny County were mostly military. Joe Biden won them by something approaching four-to-one.

The suckers and losers comment from Trump swung it

lovelemoncurd · 08/11/2020 07:44

Why whenever I see a Trump supporter on the news do I think 'you must be an idiot'? Are 70 million people all idiots? Would I actually get on with any of them if I met them? Mm early morning ponderings. 🧐

Roussette · 08/11/2020 07:45

Must apologise... the DT do mention she is a WOC and the first female in this position, but the article is about her make up/war paint, and their Twitter feed focussed on that.

Singasonga · 08/11/2020 07:53

@RedToothBrush

He said all the right things and hit the tone right.

It was good. A very classic Presidential speech. Not amazing nor particularly memorable tbh. But he caught the moment and the mood.

But talk is cheap. He now has to show in the next few weeks if he can maintain that and turn it into something solid to maintain the peace.

Thats the hard bit.

All true, but part of me is thinking this is a classic example of the left/right divide. On the left, we want to end racism, end sexism, end harmful gender stereotypes, successfully bring in massive structural changes like nationalised healthcare or transport, solve world hunger and save the planet.

On the right, a whole load of people just voted for Trump again. It stands to reason that all many of them wanted was a functioning economy, no nationalisation of anything, jobs coming back from China, and a big steak every week.

The second group seems easier to please, frankly. Trump managed it in spite of being Trump, so the bar is really not that high.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 08/11/2020 07:57

It's just occurred to me, after a little foray onto the responses on Trump's Twitter feed, that some of his supporters might be confusing the democratic process with the Democratic party when they are shouting about fraudulent votes. Or is that too simplistic and patronising of me?

BefuddledPerson · 08/11/2020 08:02

Place marking again after a decent night's sleep. When will Arizona be finished?

Dan Rather - spot on, as ever! I really must buy his book, aptly entitled at this time: "What Unites Us." Disclaimer: I have no affiliations to Mr Rather nor his publishing house. Grin

We have a new president. After all that we have seen and endured, amidst pain and outrage, loss and danger, we now will enter a new chapter in our national story.
The nature of our electoral system had a nation, and the world, waiting anxiously on the vote in a handful of states, nevermind that the general will of the American people has delivered a much more overwhelming verdict. There will be a lot more to say in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Amidst the fatigue and the uncertainty of the future, we must stay steady and resolute in finding a way to heal and move our nation forward to tackle its many challenges.
There are a lot of looming dangers, political and otherwise. There are senate runoffs and a raging pandemic. What will Donald Trump do? What about his enablers in the Republican Party? What about our public health and our national sanity? The questions start gushing like an open fire hydrant. But for now, the voting system held, a president-elect has been declared and America has a different destiny. #Courage.

OVienna · 08/11/2020 08:13

I'm excited but scared. And very pissed off that my happiness around the outcome feels somehow...spoiled????

Here's why: I think Arizona will eventually be called for Trump. I am hoping that this state and NC moving in Trump's favour through the continued counting will silence the narrative that votes for Biden were "found" since it is clear Trump votes were in this pile too.

Yes I know it isn't true but I feel like this will dog his administration and I sorely hope some means of killing this off will emerge soon. Win in Georgia in the Senate in January - maybe? Strong showing in the midterms even better. But for his most ardent supporters this is the new "Lost Cause." They will never forget and I think any real chance of a "healing" is not going to occur any time soon. They are already moving away from Fox to alternative news networks. Since the 2016 election I started following some of these people/sites because I wanted to know what they were thinking. There are more now. I unfollowed all of them last night, I've had enough. But a read through any average thread is fairly terrifying. The thing is - there are elements of the thinking on the Democratic Left I don't agree with. But the sheer scale of the "magic thinking" on the right is second to none. They're obsessed by this idea he was "in his basement" for seven months, printing fake ballots. Not being facetious either.

I think Trump won't run in 2024 but will get on the alt news bandwagon.

His disruptive behaviour feels like a curse over the US, with no real end in sight. His statements last night mean there is now no way back to any form of graceful departure.

I am more optimistic than others that Johnson will find a good working relationship with him. But it will be interesting to see how this gets navigated. (I am a dual national, twice the passports, twice the fun! )
