There's nothing wrong with wearing an apron in the loo

Dilbertian · 07/11/2020 14:59

If I need to go to the loo while I'm cooking, I leave my apron on. Dh thinks this is rank. He thinks I should take it off first.

Dh doesn't wear an apron while cooking, so if he went to the loo while he was cooking, then he, too, would be wearing the same things in the loo and in the kitchen. He says it's "different ".

Who is BU?

@HokeyWokey

Unless you use the apron to wipe your arse, I think it's no different to wearing your normal clothes.
This made me snort
Sewrainbow · 07/11/2020 17:28

I agree with you, how is wearing an apron any different to wearing your own clothes!?!?!

tsmainsqueeze · 07/11/2020 17:36

I agree with your husband , its not the same as normal clothes , an apron is easy to quickly take off , so you should .
I always have a tea towel over my shoulder when cooking , i remove it if i go into my downstairs loo for any reason.

maddening · 07/11/2020 17:45

All our clothes pick up germs but you take your clothes off and the end of the day and wash them, aprons are more often than not hung up till next time.

Yabu.

@DimidDavilby

But it might flap and touch the toilet Envy
So might a skirt.

If what you are wearing is picking up bacterial when you go to the loo, then it makes no difference whether that is an apron, or your clothes.

LubaLuca · 07/11/2020 17:53

I think if you wear an apron, you will wear it for all food prep, so nobody will be able to tell you what they'd do if they needed the loo when cooking without one (other than those who never wear one iyswim).

Taking your apron off to go to the toilet is such an easy way to reduce the risk of contamination that it's worth to getting into the habit of it, even if the risk is minuscule. It takes seconds.

Hahaha88 · 07/11/2020 17:54

I don't see any difference in wearing it to not wearing one and weeing with your normal clothes on either.

Mistressofpemberly · 07/11/2020 17:55

Ewwww. Yabu.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/11/2020 18:00

No different to wearing your normal clothes if you cook in clothes.

Mind you, I wear the apron to protect my clothes, not for hygiene, so they get filthy anyhow.

People have odd foibles. DP won't let the kids go to bed in socks, because he thinks it's dirty. Now I don't like sleeping in socks either, but that's because I feel stifled, I couldn't care less if the kids do - I can't see it as any worse than going to bed bare foot since we walk around the house barefoot all the time anyhow.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 07/11/2020 18:01

Hmmm. I do do this. And I keep separate teatowels for different purposes. I might be changing my mind a little..

It's hardly unanimous.

I used to work in a deli in a large well known supermarket, a woman I worked with came into the ladies while I was in there wearing her apron, (we were not allowed to in the toilets) came out of the cubicle, didn’t wash her hands and went straight back to the counter, didn’t wash her hands when she got there as we were supposed to do, dirty bitch. I’d say something now but was more timid in those days. Turns my stomach thinking about it 🤢

SimonJT · 07/11/2020 18:26

People who thinks its gross.

If you’re cooking and need the loo, do you change your outfit before finishing your cooking?

BackforGood · 07/11/2020 20:12

I wear an apron to protect my clothes from the food not to protect the food from germs from my clothes!

Yes, that's why I wear one.

@KarmaStar - Not everyone thinks she is though. Hmm

I don’t cook without a clean apron.
Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2020 20:23

I now think I am missing out by being a non apron wearer. I do manage to not cover myself in food while cooking though.

TheyreComingToGetYouBarbara · 07/11/2020 20:24

It feels different from regular clothes because an apron can be loose and floppy, so it seems more likely to touch some "contaminated" surfaces in the bathroom than more fitted clothes. (Dresses and skirts also have loose, flappy fabric, of course, but it's been years since I wore either of those.)

Most likely it's not a problem, but it does feel a little gross, and it doesn't take long to remove the apron.

Tittiana · 07/11/2020 20:27

Disgusting.

FastFood · 07/11/2020 20:31

You don't cook in a hazmat suit? How gross!

Dilbertian · 07/11/2020 21:00

Same here.

I don't.

Loose and floppy - a plastic apron, tied firmly at waist and neck? I hardly think so. And what would it touch? The inside might touch my thighs when I sit - so what? The outside might touch the basin when I wash my hands - again, so what?

Who actually wears an apron for hygiene reasons? I wear one if I don't want to get covered in flour or fat (or both).

Feel free to use the loo whilst wearing your apron, OP. You do you.

1Morewineplease · 07/11/2020 21:07

I get what you're saying OP.
Yes, you should take your apron off ( I don't as my apron sits on my lap and I close the lid before I flush.)
However, if you ( like your husband) don't wear an apron while cooking then going to the toilet is equally the same.
I think your husband is being silly if he tells you to take your apron off when you go to the loo but is happy to not wear an apron while cooking, and still go to the loo.

Figgyboa · 07/11/2020 21:10

Take it off! (I agree with your husband)

doubleshotespresso · 07/11/2020 21:12

YABU that's so so so gross
