Low folate levels, advice please

I started a few weeks back with dizzy spells, light headed. I had just got over a cold so assumed it was Labyrinthitis. As the weeks have passed the light headedness decreased somewhat but since last week has returned again and hasn’t left since. I feel awful, I have tinnitus, when lay down at night I feel dizzy. When I’m up and about I feel light headed. Doctor took blood test, tested a lot thyroid calcium b12 folic acid etc and it has come back with low folate levels so I began 5mg folic acid last night. Definitely not pregnant.

Looking for positive stories or advice please!! I just want to feel better Sad

Hi OP, I had low folate last year and was prescribed 5mg tablets for a couple of months. I was so exhausted I could barely keep my eyes open! The tablets helped but it was gradual so not a quick fix but my levels did go back up to normal and I started to feel less like a zombie! I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and again have low folate so back on the tablets, but this time also low B12 so had to have injections for that too. I'm hoping they'll start to kick in again soon as I'm sure I'll be tired enough once the baby! Wishing you all the best OP!

I had low folate levels a few months ago, and low phosphate levels and severely anaemic. I was put on supplements for all three and have been off work for 5 months whilst my levels normalised.

Low folate levels and anaemia (which can make you feel awful) can go hand in hand. Did they check your iron levels?

I will ring doctors next week & double check if they did iron, but they took 3 vials and the nurse did say ‘wow this doctors testing for alot’ so I can only assume iron was in there. The receptionist rang me & only mentioned the folate being low.

I have been taking 5mg of folic acid for 3 months due to low folate, and I was borderline anaemic. Noticed I’m not falling asleep at 9pm every night now.

Mines been all over since I had my bladder removed & a stoma created. Take folic acid for a few months & im ok for a while. Rinse & repeat as needed.
