Is it still bonfire night?

Sorry this is probably the millionth fireworks thread but I've been on the wine and need a moan!

It is nearly half 10 at night...why why why are people STILL setting off fireworks? I'm not usually a killjoy sorta person but it is getting beyond a joke now. Last time I checked bonfire night was yesterday - why are people still feeling the need to set them off now?

I think I'm irate after seeing some awful videos from Sheffield (I'm in Barnsley); kids throwing fireworks at police cars, people being a general nuisance.

Also read a really fucking horrible article about some absolute cunt (sorry for swearing) strapping a firework to a cat, setting it off and obviously killing it. What a horrific way to die.

I am all for fireworks but Jesus Christ there are some utter morons around.

Sigh.

There's always some who do it on the nearest Friday or Saturday to the 5th.

I’m just outside of London and it’ll pretty much go on until NYE like most years

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 06/11/2020 22:36

@ErrolTheDragon yeah, true. But I don't get why people set them off late at night. It's dark from like 5pm now - plenty of time earlier in the evening to do them!

I'm probably being a miserable bugger aren't I.

I sympathise, it's still like a war zone outside our window too. I'm expecting it to be all night again tonight and all over the weekend and then most likely on and off until new year. Sad

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 06/11/2020 22:41

@LittleMissLockdown it's just so unnecessary isn't it Sad

Because people are stupid and stupid people should not have explosives.

Someone set off a firework badly, it went straight into a horses face, blinding it. Horse is probably going to be put down. Should be the person who gets put down too.

Yes, the normal time is early evening so that kids can enjoy them, rather than be kept awake but them.

I'm sure before the millennium, NYE only ever used to be Trafalgar Square, most people used to just watch that on TV. Fireworks after kids bedtimes is antisocial.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 06/11/2020 22:44

We had some going off at midnight yesterday and some going off now. Dont mind earlier all lovely but 12.00..not so much!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2020 22:45

What the hell was anyone doing setting off fireworks anywhere near a horse?

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 06/11/2020 22:50

@CakeRequired that's horrific, absolutely horrific. These poor animals who suffer as a consequence of fireworks.
Elderly people and children who are scared too, and anyone with noise sensory disorders (I myself am very sensitive to noise) - it's a horrible time for us.

@ErrolTheDragon "Fireworks after kids bedtimes is antisocial." I don't even have kids and I agree with this. Must be hell for parents trying to get babies to sleep.

@BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter

Yeah, the guy didn't even give a shit apparently. More concerned about his right to set off fireworks.
