@lovelemoncurd

Lovely to see people celebrating on Sky News channel
I'm finding it weirdly conflicting

It's lovely to see them celebrating, but I also want them all to remember there is a pandemic and please go home or spread out a bit

At least the mostly seem to be wearing masks

BruceAndNosh · 07/11/2020 17:15

Female reporters will enjoy White House Pressers again

Lweji · 07/11/2020 17:15

Great street images from Washington DC. Biden had about 80% in DC. Grin

I bet the crowds are bigger than at the Inauguration too.

PS- I think Donald Jabba went golfing so that the wouldn't be at the WH at the time of the announcement.

DuncinToffee · 07/11/2020 17:15

@BruceAndNosh

Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Yes

Yes indeed

I'm so happy!

Not just for the USA but because I can't help feeling that this heralds the beginning of the end of all the craziness and poison of the last 4+ years on this side of the Atlantic too.

I've stuck with these threads since the beginning. I love you all.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 17:18

Yes just how big will the inaugration crowds be?

I can't wait for the side by side photos with 2016.

trafod · 07/11/2020 17:18

I'm so happy! It was a long 4 years. Roll on January! I have a feeling Trump will put up a fight to leave the White House. I keep thinking the secret service will have to physically remove him on the day. He's not going to go quietly or easily but he will be gone and that's all that matters. I'm ready for Joe and Kamala.

occa · 07/11/2020 17:18

Just feel so so relieved now.

Most friends I've heard from have been in tears, mainly from relief and exhaustion and happiness.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 17:18

And... that will be in the midst of a pandemic....

so it can't be 'like normal'.

bitheby · 07/11/2020 17:19

Anyone else cringing at the lack of social distancing though?!

I don't think there will be a large public inauguration.

Biden will not risk it being a super-spreader event.

He won't be able to have them with Covid still raging, will he?
BruceAndNosh · 07/11/2020 17:19

Will there be another thread?

ChestnutSquash · 07/11/2020 17:19

I hope there is no violence. Far too many stupid, aggressive people with guns.

PerkingFaintly · 07/11/2020 17:19

My song for today: A New Day

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 17:20

Do you think people will stay at home? There will be crowds in one way or another I suspect. Throughout the country.

BlueCatRedCat · 07/11/2020 17:20

Trump will dine out forever on his crowd being bigger than Biden's.

PerkingFaintly · 07/11/2020 17:20

@BruceAndNosh

Will there be another thread?
Got to be.

We've been anticipating The Aftermath since 2016.

Might take a mental holiday before then though...

justawoman · 07/11/2020 17:20

AP’s called Nevada for Biden. Not that it matters now...

TheSilveryPussycat · 07/11/2020 17:21

I was OK till CNN cut to the joyous scenes in Philadelphia, then burst into tears.

Then rolled a spliff and listened to this - LOUD!!

The Nice. America

(Prog rock so track is long - but you don't have to listen to all (or any!) of it.)

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/11/2020 17:21

I hope the first thing that Jill Biden does when she gets into the White House is to reinstate the vandalised Rose Garden.

Copperas · 07/11/2020 17:21

I hope there's another thread - and 100 more talking and learning together and trying to put the world to rights Flowers

Lweji · 07/11/2020 17:21

Fox are blaming the push for in person vote for the defeat.

Female reporter acknowledges it's an important day for African and Asian Americans, and... women. Grin

Coquohvan · 07/11/2020 17:22

Would just like to congratulate our US friends here on their win. Love and best wishes from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

CornwallLass · 07/11/2020 17:23

Thank you to all on these threads. It has been a dark few years, but your insights from around the world have helped me through. I remember sitting alone in a hotel in 2016 feeling the world was unravelling and your voices kept me sane. Now we must and can keep the momentum up to shift the axis of the whole world back to a better place.
Particular good wishes to all those in the USA who have had to endure the storm in person (rather than watch aghast from afar) and special thanks to @RedToothBrush and DH for keeping us going with in depth number crunching during the past few days. I almost gave in to despair, but then remembered you had never let us down.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.
