Fuck this fucking house

DH and I bought a beautiful old cottage 1.5yrs ago, have been blissfully happy since we moved in. Everyone comments on what a lovely place it is, we love rurally, in a gorgeous AONB.

Now to get the point. I am the least woo person you will meet, but even I was a bit WTF when DH made his first trip up in the loft and then came back and showed me this.. taken from an old door stored up there. Do let me have your thoughts, woo and non woo!

Fuck this fucking house

@boredwithfoodprob

My DH just suggested maybe you DH wrote it! 🤣
That was my thought too!!
Doubleyikes · 06/11/2020 22:41

If it’s a teenager then further trips up to the attic will reveal, “I hate you. You are NOT my parents.” And, “I’m over 16 you can’t ground me.” There will be a final one saying, “ Im not putting up with this, I’m going to live with Tom’s family.”

JaneJeffer · 06/11/2020 22:42

That looks like Bertha Mason's handwriting.

TheSandman · 06/11/2020 22:47

Non Woo.

I do have to wonder how big you loft hatch is that you can have whole doors stored in your attic.

corythatwas · 06/11/2020 22:49

Ha, ha, that's nothing! We found blood in our loft! A briefcase full of blood samples. Previous owners apparently worked in a medical lab.

corythatwas · 06/11/2020 22:50

To reassure you, I might mention that we have since lived happily in the house for 27 years.

Pollynextdoor · 06/11/2020 22:52

I think your DH wrote it.

category12 · 06/11/2020 23:03

How can you claim to be "non-woo" yet think this is spooky? If it was written in blood or dust, or said "you shall die" then maybe, but crikey, black marker pen graffiti=not in the least bit eerie.

Sevo7 · 06/11/2020 23:03

This has just reminded me of when I was about 12 and helping my mum tile the bathroom in our old farmhouse. I was a bit of a strange child and while my mum wasn’t looking decided to write on the plaster things like “I died here” “watch out for the sounds at night” and other strange things before grouting a tile on to the wall Hmm I wonder if any owners since have taken the tiles off, if they did they’d probably be thinking wtf Confused

@ratspeaker

😂😂😂😂😂!!!

DahliaMacNamara · 06/11/2020 23:15

@Wearywithteens

Definitely a grumpy teenager.
You say that, but every now and again MIL rings up to rant about how she has hated her own fucking house for the last 50 years.
JuliaJohnston · 06/11/2020 23:20

You didn't really think it was a curse from the Other Side?!

Butteredtoast55 · 06/11/2020 23:21

Workman fed up with previous owners?

Diversion · 06/11/2020 23:28

Just grumpy, either a teenager or the owner fed up of spending their money! Make it your home and ignore the messages. Write some of your own on the walls before decorating. Either that or get some fake bones leftover from Hallloween and hide them under the patio :D

Flamingolingo · 06/11/2020 23:30

@FeathersOarBlades true - but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that the electricians had scrawled similar somewhere in our loft.

When I was a student I lived in a rambling old Victorian. That house had a bit of an odd vibe, but one day I pulled the carpet back and found that there were runes carved into the floorboards all the way round the room. Now that was creepy!

HollowTalk · 06/11/2020 23:34

Love this!
Toomuchtrouble4me · 06/11/2020 23:43

Leave immediately and don't look back....

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 23:45

@Twofurrycatsagain

Non woo. I'm in the middle of a renovation and could happily write that on every surface.
My thought exactly.

OP it's the cri de coeur of someone who's just taken up the floorboards to sort out the electrics which fused when they made tea three weeks ago and they haven't been able to get an electrician till now, and they've discovered the dry rot, caused by the leak in the pipework which is embedded in the plasterwork and will need to be hacked out but the room is fully papered so will have to be entirely redecorated to match.

The door is the one they'd been hoping would last till autumn but something's shifted and it now won't open properly, so they've had to wedge it closed and use the other door for 6 months, carrying all the building materials (now including new joists and flooring and plaster) 200 m round to the other gate.

Old houses. Such fun!

Time2change2 · 06/11/2020 23:50

Someone was locked up behind that door or for some reason unable to leave the house- gives me the chills

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 23:50

And echoing other posters, if you've spent your 1.5 years in your cute ancient cottage blissfully happy and not saying "Fuck this fucking house," it's even more likely some recent previous owner has!

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/11/2020 23:56

I didn't know ghosts had Sharpies!

Procrastination4 · 06/11/2020 23:59

Disgruntled electrician trying to run wires and was exasperated by the non-compliant cavities...Wink

HappenedForAReisling · 07/11/2020 00:02

MiL told me she cleaned out an old walk-in cupboard to find that DH had, many, many years before, written "I hate DSis" on one of the walls.

willowmelangell · 07/11/2020 00:03

I've lived in my rented house for 9 years. I have never been in the atticGrin
