Wondering why furlough has been extended to Spring ? Makes me feel like we are in for more lockdowns?

By the time March comes around, furlough will have been going on for nearly a year! I’m wondering how the hell it’s going to be paid for, especially as there seemed to have been a hell of a lot of fraudulent activity with this scheme.
To answer your question, it does make you wonder if we’re actually going to be in lockdown until then. I think we probably will be in some form or another.

Unfortunately it's likely - unless we did one proper lockdown, including restricted borders (IN as well as out), and sorted out the test, track, and trace.

It's also rather shocking to condemn to destitution the many people who lost their jobs or became too ill to work before the pandemic. Through no fault of their own.

Furlough is largely an acknowledgement that the benefits system is not fit for purpose.

It's to to "reduce" unemployment for now. They hope that some jobs will be "saved" until March....
As well as supporting entertainment and gastronomy during the coming months of restrictions and lockdowns.
Shame, because for some people it will be to little to late. Many companies have the "ball" rolling for redundancies.

The self employed grant has been increased and extended too. It has to be done I guess, but God knows how all this is going to be repaid. Payback will arrive eventually and I’m just really worried in what form that payback is going to come.

Higher taxes. But not for the rich, obviously.

This isn't even a proper lockdown. Schools still open etc. Its not going to make any difference to the numbers.
