The fireworks tonight

AIBU or are you probably just an anarchist or an arsehole to be setting off fireworks and firecrackers during a lockdown, when official displays are banned?

There's no excuse to be frightening animals either tonight. Don't be a dickhead.

I live in the countryside and it's shooting season. We hear loud bangs all weekend that upsets our dog, but no-one complains about that. We let off a couple of fountain fireworks for the kids that made far less noise than the shooting we hear all weekend.

swansongs · 05/11/2020 21:02

I really have no idea what lockdown has to do with this, but some people do seem to use Covid as an excuse for their own misanthropy and puritanism

This, a thousand times this. All the threads about 'reporting people' and hating neighbors.

Jijithecat · 05/11/2020 21:03

We've really enjoyed watching other people's fireworks from our bedroom window tonight.

BakedTattie · 05/11/2020 21:04

Maybe they are dealing with actual crime?!

BakedTattie · 05/11/2020 21:05

Maybe the police are dealing with actual crime? Where I live, it’s not illegal for personal fireworks displays. Where do you live op for it to be illegal?

PeonyandDahlia · 05/11/2020 21:08

We are having ours on Saturday. Can't wait.

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:08

IHateWasps we must have the same neighbours. I'm actually wracking my brains trying to think of how to let them know how disgustingly selfish they are.

I don't know exactly which house it is as we're in a row but with any slice of luck they'll blow their own fucking house up. Selfish horrible absolute CUNTS.

They've been going on for an hour. I'll have no sympathy if one blows up in their face. Probably no such luck though.

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:09

It's supposed to be on fucking Guy Fawkes night, if you must insist upon being an anti social arse, not whenever you feel like it.

Calmandmeasured1 · 05/11/2020 21:12

Are fireworks banned under lockdown too? Ffs
No. They aren't banned.

LynetteScavo · 05/11/2020 21:13

It seems to have gone quiet here. Three hours non-stop of bangs. I like fireworks but don't see the point in the loud ones. I just like the pretty ones. My 2 cats aren't happy. Tonight was a little bit much.I've always thought public displays only are the way to go. This year DH and I waved some giant sparklers about while teenage DC rolled their eyes at us. I guess that's it now until New Year's Eve. I wonder if we will still be in lockdown then?

Hellothere19999 · 05/11/2020 21:16

Bloody hell what a miserable post! I get that they can scare animals (I have horses and dogs and all sorts) but you know it’s gonna happen so prepare for it. I think they look nice and remind me of being a kid. Get over it, lockdown is already miserable enough.
Also all the fireworks I’ve seen are in people’s gardens with their family’s and not that late either.
(For people with PTSD though I do get it... that must be awful and I would perhaps discuss it with nearby neighbours).

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:17

There they go again. Fucking arseholes. I don't know why they have to prolong it.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 05/11/2020 21:19

We went for a walk and enjoyed all the fireworks lots going off

I’m too scared of them to ever buy any myself

And kept the cat inside tonight

Porcupineinwaiting · 05/11/2020 21:21

Maybe people shouldn't own cats and dogs in urban areas. Think of all the problems that would solve.

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:23

Maybe people shouldn't be such anti social selfish inconsiderate brainless arses who are so easily amused by something going bang and I'm not urban.

Porcupineinwaiting · 05/11/2020 21:25

Fireworks as a form of entertainment have been around for hundreds of years, just deal with it. Thousands of people arent going to change their minds just because you want a cat.

I live in a suburb of a city, I can hear fireworks which are being set off streets away. Should I go and knock on the doors of the hundreds of nearby houses and tell people I have never met all about my phobia?
IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:27

Peta have been around for thousands of years. Much longer than fucking fireworks, though probably not nearly so long as utter anti-social arseholes with no regard for anyone.

TibetanTerrier · 05/11/2020 21:29

@VelvetSpoon
I'd be happy if everything other than sparklers was banned for domestic use.

Sparklers aren't any safer than any other firework unfortunately. They burn at 650 degrees Celsius yet people put them into children's hands as if they're toys. Every year the sparks cause serious burns and eye injuries, and a couple of years ago a 4 year old died in the US from a sparkler-caused injury. Apparently more than half of the fireworks injuries suffered by children under the age of 5 are caused by sparklers.

soontobe2 · 05/11/2020 21:30

Sadism 🤣 YABU

Porcupineinwaiting · 05/11/2020 21:33

Individual pets have not been around for thousands of years. At the time you acquired yours you did it in the knowledge that fireworks happen at various times of year. It was a choice you made, you dont get to insist that your selfish interests are more important than anyone else's.

I'm pretty neutral about fireworks but I do like garden birds. Doesnt mean I get to demand that my neighbours dont keep cats.

Viv0321 · 05/11/2020 21:37

Who’s doing theirs on the weekend instead?

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:39

Obviously someone left the pig ignorant arsehole enclosure open tonight. Hopefully the Zookeeper will get here soon to round them up.

IHateWasps · 05/11/2020 21:40

Who’s doing theirs on the weekend instead?

Even more inconsiderate bastards I expect.

lovepickledlimes · 05/11/2020 21:43

@ Viv0321 Apparently at least @PeonyandDahlia is
