Royal mail delays.

Anyone else found that royal mail have large delays at the moment? Ordered something on Tuesday, tracked 48 hours. Apparently it was dispatched today, and estimated arrival on the 11th. Should really have been arriving on the 5th. Paid £7 for quicker delivery which is annoying. Its a gift for my father's birthday which is on the 10th. Thought 8 days for 48 hours tracked should be enough. What are the chances it'll arrive? Its his 50th and would be nice to drop it on his doorstep on his birthday.

Its not just you. I noticed this recently
I ordered 2 things over a week ago and they both arrived yesterday. Both royal mail. I had a first class signed for delivery take about 5 days.

Trying not to get too irritated about it as I know covid is affecting so many people. A little frustrating though. Wondered if it was just me.

I had a parcel take 7 days to arrive recently, however I posted a parcel first class yesterday lunchtime and it was with my friend by 10am this morning.

IgorThalia · 05/11/2020 16:30

Wondering now accurate their delivery times are or if they add extra days at the moment just in case!

I e posted a few small parcels first class over the last few months. All have taken 7 days plus. Even letters that were sent to me first class took 5-7 days to arrive.

IgorThalia · 05/11/2020 16:32

Bugger. Guess he'll just have to make do with a card. Hate the idea of him being on his own for his 50th! We were all meant to be in his hometown in the Caribbean Sad

I was due to receive something today.
The time has come and gone and no update.

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/11/2020 16:44

I think they're cutting the number of deliveries, so you might get a delivery every second or every third day. So if you're lucky with timing, something might come next day, but if it's just missed a delivery it'll have to wait for the next one.

SparklyOwl · 05/11/2020 16:46

The local sorting office here is running on about 50% of normal staff. If it’s similar nationally, then it’s not surprising there are huge delays and backlogs. Hopefully your dad will feel like his birthday has been extended with the delayed gift.

Nicketynac · 05/11/2020 16:52

If it only dispatched today then that is due to the sender instead of Royal Mail surely?

IgorThalia · 05/11/2020 16:55

@nicketynack quite possibly!

My postman is coming two to three hours later than usual. He says he got so many extra parcels and stuff, it's as if it is Christmas now.

tectonicplates · 05/11/2020 17:06

Yes it's been slow all through the lockdown. Post office staff get the virus and then have to stay at home, and they're at risk due to being out and about all the time.

Also a lot of companies are starting Black Friday very early this year. I've already received a couple of emails with surprisingly generous discounts which I wasn't expecting, so there might be more parcels being delivered in general, which will slow things down.

Springersrock · 05/11/2020 17:10

I sent some Halloween treats to DD at uni last Thursday and paid for next day delivery

They arrived yesterday.

Was pretty annoyed. Totally understand they may be having issues, but they shouldn’t be offering the service if they can’t deliver on time.

mummyh2016 · 05/11/2020 17:13

Having read this I've just realised we're probably only getting post 2-3 days a week, whereas before we were probably getting post at least 5 days a week. I think today has been the first lot of post we've had this week.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/11/2020 17:16

Christmas is going to be fun with the whole country buying every last thing online Confused
I think I'll have to kid myself into thinking the last post day before Christmas is around the 7th December... cos it probably will be not far off.

Time to get organised people Wine

GladAllOver · 05/11/2020 17:23

We have a weekly subscription to Radio Times. It's been coming a week late, so completely useless.

CoRhona · 05/11/2020 17:29

I've just paid for next day delivery - didn't arrive. Also am waiting on something coming via parcel force from abroad that was sent mid September...

listsandbudgets · 05/11/2020 17:37

We are getting one delivery a week at the moment. Stuff just turns up eventually. I was sent a parcel first class by someone on the 26th October and there's no sign of it yet. So far though, special delivery seems to be working alright for business stuff.

I never thought I'd type this sentence but I am getting a better service from Yodel and Hermes at the moment than I am from the Royal Mail.

ShopTattsyrup · 05/11/2020 17:40

I've found letters and a couple of items I've bought that are letter sized (a couple of second hand PS4 games in jiffy envelopes) have turned up as normal in 24-48hours, but anything larger is taking much much longer - usually well over a week if coming by Royal Mail.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/11/2020 17:42

Hermes have always been good here but have been excellent during lockdowns.

Had no post in days so guessing there are staffing issues.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 05/11/2020 18:13

Yes, I've had problems. I received an email telling me a travel pass was despatched to me and I was to report it to sender if it hadn't come in 5 working days to come (special delivery ha, ha, for which I'd paid extra). It took about 8 working days, by which time I'd reported it not arrived and much confusion ensued. Moral to this story: Don't pay extra for special delivery for your rail pass as it won't get to you any quicker.
