To go on a self catering break in wales in 2 weeks time?

Would you go? It is within the rules.

Are you in Wales or England?

Viv0321 · 05/11/2020 09:17

Wales

Is it? Where are you going from, I'm pretty sure if you're under English lockdown then it's not ok to leave your area and you'll very likely be turned away from the border.

pintoffginplz · 05/11/2020 09:19

No

Redwrecker · 05/11/2020 09:19

Its not in the rules.

Brighterthansunflowers · 05/11/2020 09:19

Kind of important to say which country you live in

England will be in lockdown so no non-essential travel so YWBU to go to Wales on holiday

If you live in Wales YWNBU as travel within Wales is allowed once the firebreak lockdown ends

I’m not sure of the rules in Scotland and NI but if they apply to you then I’m sure someone more helpful will be along shortly

Serin · 05/11/2020 09:21

If you are in Wales, going to a different bit of Wales then I think their lockdown ends soon, so it might be possible.
Rules could change again though.

pintoffginplz · 05/11/2020 09:21

Sorry I posted before I wrote what I needed to. If you live in Wales, I personally would see what the covid is like in the area your going to them decide, if coming from England no, don't come to Wales

JamRolyPolyAnyone · 05/11/2020 09:21

If you live in Wales you can holiday in Wales

nettytree · 05/11/2020 09:22

If you live in Wales you can go on holiday in a different bit of Wales. If you live in England then no.

ExCwmbranDweller · 05/11/2020 09:25

I'd say even though it's well within the rules please use your head. Don't come to rural Pembs with very few cases if you are in Neath P-T with sky high cases. Enjoy your self catering but maybe do a big shop before you come and if you have to go to Tesco whilst away for gods sake DON'T take the entire family and stand in the middle of the aisle looking confused because the layout is different to home (sorry, I may be projecting a little from recent trips to the supermarket).

RattleOfBars · 05/11/2020 09:25

Sorry but I think you’d be breaking the law, government has advised against all but essential travel. We’ve cancelled our holiday even though it was in the same county!

I also think locals would be quite annoyed at people holidaying in their area, presumably you’d need to shop for food and things, use parks/playgrounds etc.

Viv0321 · 05/11/2020 09:43

No law breaking, if you live in wales you can holiday in wales. Mark drakeford was asked the question and he said yes.

Depends where you are in Wales. If you are from RCT I would probably refuse your booking even though it would be legal for me to accept it.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:49

So why are you asking us if you know the answer already?

Confused
justchecking1 · 05/11/2020 10:01

Which bit of Wales are you going from and to? That would help to decide

Popcornismandatory · 05/11/2020 10:09

Confused

This 🤷‍♀️
Viv0321 · 05/11/2020 10:16

Just wondering if others would go in general.

It depends what you’re going for. If you’re looking to take the family expecting entertainment then there’s no point as there will be no entertainment.

I would go with just DH and the dog. We very often have short breaks in various parts of Wales. Our “holiday” would consist of us taking our own food and walking the deserted (at this time of year) beaches and forests. However, the weather isn’t up to that at this time of year so we have no plans to holiday in UK (or anywhere) before May 2021.

Moo678 · 05/11/2020 10:41

We live in Scotland and went on a self catering break during the October holidays. It was within the rules at this point. We were very careful to minimise contact with the local community. I think it’s fine if it’s allowed and you are careful.

Peace43 · 05/11/2020 10:52

Yes, you can. Wales people can holiday in Wales... 😁

Brighterthansunflowers · 05/11/2020 10:54

Honestly I think YWBU to go if you live in areas like RCT or Merthyr with sky high cases.

i know it’s not against the rules but I think it probably should be against them tbh!

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 11:00

No I would not go, no fun whatsoever in the middle of November in the freezing cold, with everything closed. Nope, I would save my money and go in the spring or summer.

I think the risk is also much higher to you and your family. Wales R rate is higher than England and they would be in a complete lockdown if it were not for Drakeford making a point.
