Aibu to think the future of the UK is being decided in the US election, and we have absolutely no say in it.

Boris is obviously waiting to see who wins the election and this will determine the future for the UK.
So much for 'taking back control'. At least we had a vote in the EU.

Looks like Biden might win so at least that means we probably get to keep our food standards. Well, for a few extra years.

I wonder if the 50/50 vote is just a variation of 52/48.

How will it determine our future?

KenDodd · 04/11/2020 22:12

Because if DT wins we will get TTIP+++ (or a version) and no deal with the EU.
If JB wins we will get no deal with the US and will either turn to look for a deal with the EU or have no deal anywhere (Japan and a few continuity).

@Greysparkles

How will it determine our future?
It's been widely suggested in the press that Boris is waiting for the result of the election to decide what to do on Brexit - if Trump he'll go for no deal, if Biden he'll try for a deal.
Stripesnomore · 04/11/2020 22:14

Trump turned down TTIP. He is a protectionist.

Newfornow · 04/11/2020 22:15

Biden is pro Europe. Trump not. It will effect what move Bojo takes next.

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2020 22:17

Yes. The results will definitely impact on the U.K. and many other nations. It has potential to impact on world peace.
Trump is a liability. Johnson would happily follow him.

NullcovoidNovember · 04/11/2020 22:19

No, not at all.
Any trade deal will always be done with either side protecting their interests. Whoever is in power, that is what will happen.

I suspect Boris would have more confidence to "no deal" with Trump as an ally. If Biden wins I think he'll grab whatever scrappy EU deal is now on the table (if it's not too late?)
