So. My lovely daughter is 14.

She has always dropped hints of questioning her sexuality, to be honest i just thought it was a phase so i let her get on with it.
She had a crush on a boy a while ago but she said she liked him because he looked very very feminine and it never went further than liking to look at him, which i understand and didnt give much thought.

She is now getting into music, specifically classic rock which is undeniably full of hot men!! Blush
i half expected her to message me one day and tell me how she likes David Bowie/George Harrison/Bob Dylan etc because i certainly did Grin

But no... My husband just had to introduce her to Patti Smith out of all people!!!! Shock
And now i have to listen to her gritty, nails on a chalkboard voice every day...
And now i have an out and proud lesbian daughter!! Shock [grın]
Apparantly the ´beautiful´ Patti has finally helped her realize that she is, after all, a lesbian.

Cue DH showing her KD fucking LANG!!!
if i have to hear bloody blummin miss shitaleine again i will combust!!!!

i am a straight woman in my fourties and no way do i have any prejudice against gay women but no way do i want redondo beach playing in my car via bluetooth [grın]

AIBU?

I love KD. Having said that, the old 70s music - Meg Christian, Peggy Seeger and so on is the best.

Here's an introduction.

CodenameVillanelle · 04/11/2020 12:27

Get her into LP - stunning voice and hot lesbian with an extremely hot lesbian girlfriend
Also Tash Sultana who possibly embodies the spirit of jimi Hendrix and Patti Smith in the body of a hot lesbian (though she calls herself non binary so steer DD away from googling her too much)

Lalalatte · 04/11/2020 12:29

Be grateful your husband hasn't heard of courtney Barnet

StevieNicksister · 04/11/2020 12:31

Oh, thank you for reccomendations.
i will show Dh to introduce to her Grin

Oh this brings back memories! Patti Smith and Tegan and Sara were my go tos when I was a working out that I was bisexual. Also X Ray Spex and Siouxsie and the Banshees.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 04/11/2020 12:32

i'd prefer to bed KD Lang than Bowie and I'm straight!!

FrankieChips · 04/11/2020 12:34

I love Patti Smith! Does she like Stevie Nicks?

Soubriquet · 04/11/2020 12:35

Introduce her to t.a.tu? Grin

StevieNicksister · 04/11/2020 12:36

@FrankieChips Everybody loves Stevie nicks!! She grew up on Fleetwood Mac Wink

I'm happy for your DD.

I sympathise with your ears.

I agree with this Grin
SequinsandStiIettos · 04/11/2020 12:37

LP

PervyMuskrat · 04/11/2020 12:38

How about Halestorm? Lzzy Hale is bi and sings great songs for women of all sexualities

ravenmum · 04/11/2020 12:40

Your dh sounds like a lovely dad :)

If you introduce your dd to music you do like, maybe she'll start playing that instead? My ex used to roll his eyes when me and the kids sang along to my collection of tunes (basically That's What I Call Music Gay Men Love). But he didn't offer a single alternative...

Otherwise just get her some decent headphones. Great Xmas present.

Hoppinggreen · 04/11/2020 12:42

It’s all Girl in Red as far as I know
A girl asked DD (straight) if she was into Girl in red and when she said yes asked her out. DD was a bit baffled until she found out it was supposedly “lesbian” music

FuriousCheekyFucker · 04/11/2020 12:43

I don't see whats lighthearted about stereotyping an artists music because of their sexuality.

What next, "banter" about black musicians being great at rap but shit at playing classical?

FabbyChix · 04/11/2020 12:44

Is their such a thing as lesbian music, I thought all music was for everyone.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/11/2020 12:47

Is their such a thing as lesbian music

Yeah. Recognised genre in the 70s. Especially Olivia records.

OMG. I LOVE LP. Brilliant! Such a find! Thank you!

Zilla1 · 04/11/2020 12:50

You can either expose her to greater and greater music and hope she picks up on the best or sadly realise she has your DH's musical taste. If you suspect she is reacting negatively to your taste for some reason then you could feed your choices to your DH then patio him later.

nosswith · 04/11/2020 12:52

Women (and men) who write their own songs, play their own instruments, and seek to portray a message in their songs.

What would you rather- some bad karaoke like Little Mix, or some misogynistic rap?

CheetasOnFajitas · 04/11/2020 12:57

Ha ha Patti Smith is the pits (and like you I love Dylan). If you want some more tuneful lesbian music, I recommend that you point her towards the Brazilian singer Daniela Mercury.

jessstan1 · 04/11/2020 13:00

Katy Perry, 'I kissed a girl', and going back a bit in time, K D Lang.

viques · 04/11/2020 13:01

Introduce her to Tracey Chapman. Job done.

Jbck · 04/11/2020 13:02

Cornetto Barnetto is on constantly in our house, Lesbian daughter, muso DH.

Im grateful she doesn’t like Patti Smith too or Id have to leave, taking One Direction loving tween DD2 with me.

Thatwaslulu · 04/11/2020 13:04

Try Cancel Tomorrow - the bassist is a lesbian and is gorgeous

DrDavidBanner · 04/11/2020 13:06

This is a fucking wierd thread.
I mean I'll admit I'm not a lesbian so I didn't realise lesbians had an appoved playlist, but then I wasn't picking out what music my teenagers were supposed to listen to either.
