We live in a small modern house with no built in storage and we just seem to be drowning in stuff the whole time. There isn't even a cupboard to stick the hoover out of sight in so it lives in the upstairs corridor and DC use it to jump over for hurdling practice.

Some stuff we can cull and we've made a start on that. But other stuff we do value and use regularly (duplo, train track, doll's house, art stuff, playdoh etc.).

I don't want a show home, which is a good thing because that's not something I'm going to get any time this decade Grin. I just think we'd all feel happier and more "together" if we were a bit more organised. Work is busy atm as well and everything feels like such a muddle.

Any ideas welcome!

Oh I hear you. I've moved so OK now but when we lived in a small property I was absolutely ruthless. So lots of decluttering.
Even now I have nice tins for washing powder rather than leaving ugly boxes handing about.
IKEA Trones wall storage is amazing and stores books toys teddies and even bathroom supplies (look up Google images for tonnes of ideas)

Argos ottomans are used in each room here. Work as a stool too

Under bed storage boxes.

Scan in documents rather than keeping paperwork

Have a bag in the bottom of a wardrobe for charity donations and try as much as you can to get this bag out of the house as soon as you can

Also we have a Dyson as it's wall mounted. I try as much as I can to find a place for everything.

Do you have a loft?

We have ikea storage boxes which go in the cupboards, on top of the cupboards and under the bed.

Do you have Netflix? Watch Tiny House series, it is fascinating how they squeeze storage in!

Serin · 04/11/2020 11:57

Put bed raisers under each bed to raise them up 6 inches, then you will have space for storage boxes underneath.
Same with sofas if necessary.
Buy storage cabinets, like those huge larder cupboards.
Shed for outdoors?
Use toy library and book library.

We have put high shelves above doorways for extra space.

Second what a pp said about having a space for everything.

IKEA kallax units with the boxes in labelled for kiddies toys.
