Our near 10yr old DS wants to play this. But from what i've read you have to play it with chat, as it's a team game, and there are stories of inappropriate teenager comments, swearing etc.

What do people do/think?

My teens (and I) play this. I wouldn't have let them play when they were 10. Unless they played a "private" game with their friends. Although as the aim of the game is to kill each other I'm not sure I'd have been happy about it.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 04/11/2020 09:58

My nearly 10 year old DD plays this with her teenage step sister

She enjoys it. She's supervised.

Obviously it's up to you as a parent though...

Athrawes · 04/11/2020 10:01

I checked the rating and it says ok for 10. All his friends are playing and I have talked to him about online safety.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 04/11/2020 10:01

DS1 (16) plays online with strangers. There is definitely swearing.

DS2 (14) mainly plays private games with his friends. I rarely hear a swear word, but the occasional one slips out.

yellowmaoampinball · 04/11/2020 10:07

Only on the private server. Her older teenage siblings cautioned me against letting her on the public one due to some inappropriate chat happening at times.

TheWindowDonkey · 04/11/2020 10:10

My mid teens dd toldme she had approached by strangers on the game asking her age and if she were looking for a ‘daddy’. More than once. No way my 10 year old would be on there personally.

AlwaysLatte · 04/11/2020 10:12

My 10 year old plays it and we all play it as a family so we can have our own private game much of the time,

TwoleftUggs · 04/11/2020 10:12

My teen and her younger brother bro play it together but when he is included they make sure it’s just her and her friends in the group. A private party. It’s actually the first thing they’ve played together for a long time and I’m loving hearing the hysterical laughter coming from their rooms

Sundiamond · 04/11/2020 10:13

@TheWindowDonkey That's shocking and exactly what I'm against

Any game which involves talking to randoms online has that risk. Among us is fine if you know 3+ other people who play so you can play a private game.

Halliehallie9828 · 04/11/2020 10:16

My 9 year old plays it, I join her sometimes.

Once in the chat someone asked if ‘brown’ was a girl. Brown was actually me... I just said non of your business.

Iv told my daughter she doesn’t reply to any weirdos like that and she’s a proper goodie two shoes so I know she would come running to me or just ignore it.

Namechange8471 · 04/11/2020 10:16

Mine is 12 and plays it supervised.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2020 10:17

I would only let them play in a private group at that age.

Lougle · 04/11/2020 10:21

I let my 11 year old play it, but the rule is not to join chat if she's on a public game.

FloraButterCookie · 04/11/2020 10:55

My just-turned-11 DS plays it, I play with him sometimes. Personally haven’t seen any inappropriate chat on it, it’s usually just straight to the point of the game. It’s fun

Sundiamond · 04/11/2020 11:11

Yeah, I'm not sure my son is a goodie two shoes! Here in lies the problem.

No - one of my friends has a 12 year old and lets her play.

He was posting the other night that she was receiving death threats from other players for doing something they didn't like.

He obviously explained that she was not in any real danger, but the reality is, that's the level of aggression on the servers.

Sundiamond · 04/11/2020 11:18

wow @ginnybag

Yes but only private games

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 04/11/2020 11:23

Yes

VeganVeal · 04/11/2020 11:23

My Uncle plays it and he's 54. He says he loves it as he lives alone and its company for him

1starwars2 · 04/11/2020 11:24

Both my ds play. Not heard or seen anything inappropriate and the 11year old likes playing on the school coach with his friends.
I think there are filters for swearing, although probably easy to get round.
Harder to police some of these other issues as the chat is live.

LonelyFromCorona · 04/11/2020 11:26

It's a great game. Basically a parlour game like wink murder, but on computer/phones/tablets.

Ask your DS if he has friends who play and say he is only allowed to play in private rooms with them.

twobrews · 04/11/2020 11:29

My children's primary put out a warning message out saying that several parents had been in touch after their children had received inappropriate messages.

Mine don't play it, I tried to as it sounds good. I just ran around for about 2 seconds then got shot Hmm

Beamur · 04/11/2020 11:30

My DD plays (13yrs old). I don't think she's had any issues, but I can see how easily they might happen in a game with strangers. She quite often plays a private game with friends. It's a fun game. Just need to be aware of the potential pitfalls with the chat facility..
