AIBU to feel down that Trump could win again?

So professionally its been a crap year (clue is in the username), two colleagues have died of covid19, the pressure on NHS staff is huge, Ive not seen one of my DCs since Sept Im sceptical I'll see him this side Xmas, I worry my other DC will be made redundant if lockdown continues although I support it, Im mid 50's and for so is my DH but obviously I worry about catching Covid19 and or I get and unbeknown give it to one of my very vulnerable patients, I personally think BJ is an incompetant idiot, the way he's handled Covid19 in unbelievable but Ive managed to stay positive and fairly upbeat. But now Trump might win again (Im not saying Biden is much better) and I feel very upset I just cant believe that more white people voted for than Biden. what the hell is wrong with people?
IM off to work now but just want to talk to someone I guess.

I feel the same.

SpeccyLime · 04/11/2020 08:08

It’s a very reasonable thing to be upset about Flowers

LouiseTrees · 04/11/2020 08:10

The explanation. Those white people are Americans. Law unto themselves. I called this last night though as soon as I saw Trump in the lead in New Hampshire, I thought well if he holds anything people clearly haven’t wised up. Yes the UK is a laughing stock at the moment but American has been for 4 years.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 04/11/2020 08:10

It’s looking increasingly likely he will win and it’s so fecking depressing. There seems to be no good news in 2020.

tiredwardsister · 04/11/2020 08:11

Thank you for you support it will make my day go better.

It’s not over til every vote is counted, don’t give up yet! And I’m sorry you’ve had such a difficult time, I’m so thankful for people like you who are keeping going and doing incredibly stressful jobs during a pandemic xx

Svelteinmydreams · 04/11/2020 08:17

I am with you OP, it’s bad enough he won the first time but a second term is unthinkable. You are not alone in your thinking,
So sorry you have lost your colleagues.

Another tired NHS worker here. The bad news feels relentless this year. I am currently feeling physically sick with dread that trump will be re- elected. How low are people's expectations of thier president?

StCharlotte · 04/11/2020 08:19

I (sadly) predicted a Trump win weeks ago. I hope I'm wrong.

I also predicted the last time he won, the last three general election results and the Brexit referendum.

Off to try and use my "powers" for good. Eyes up lottery numbers...

noideaatallreally · 04/11/2020 08:24

Yeah 2020 - the year that keeps on giving. I have been sceptical of the polls putting Biden ahead. Polls seem to be getting more and more unreliable. Honestly - I think it's because many Trump voters are actually embarrassed to admit that they will be voting for him so lie to the pollster. I would be embarrassed too.

unicornpower · 04/11/2020 08:47

Nope, with the way 2020 is going he may well win. What a shitshow of a year-I'm sorry you're feeling so down, i hope you get to see your kids soon and thank you for all your hard work xxxxx

Thymeout · 04/11/2020 09:58

I'm not giving hope yet. Trump has lost Arizona and the votes still to be counted are more likely to be Democrat than Republican. That's why Trump is trying to stop the counting. He wouldn't be doing that if he thought he was winning.

Ylfa · 04/11/2020 10:02

I predicted a coup and something terrible happening to Nancy Pelosi 😟

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 04/11/2020 10:02

I have a friend who moved from the UK to USA. Her and her DH are huge Trump supporters. Her DH is mixed race, as are their 4 children. Anyone who disagrees with her is a simpleton apparently 🤨

yelyah22 · 04/11/2020 11:28

I feel you. Even if Biden scrapes a win, it blows my mind that someone with Trump's track record and views could get any votes, never mind roughly half.

Calmandmeasured1 · 04/11/2020 11:36

I operate on the basis of trying not to get too wound up about things I have no control of. It doesn't always work but we just have to deal with whatever situations we find ourselves in as best we can. Whoever holds the very important position of POTUS, I, as a UK citizen, have no control over it.

QueenBlueberries · 04/11/2020 11:40

Yes it's depressing. It's one of those 'dear god what now' moment. Just something else on top of everything else. DId you watch Bake Off yesterday? like Lottie's day. One thing after another.

But on the plus side...??

Sexnotgender · 04/11/2020 11:43

I’m sorry you’ve had such a shit yearFlowers

What makes me really sad is that this is the best America has! Biden is shit too, just a different type of shit to trump.

Goosefoot · 04/11/2020 11:48

There are pretty understandable reasons that people voted for Trump over Biden. Personally I think that trying to see it from another POV makes it better - it makes more sense then, even if you think it's the wrong decision.

Sometimes it's less visible to people in places like the UK that the Democratic Party is really not something that many people look at with any kind of feeling that it will help them. A lot if us think, well, surely they will do more for people, they will not do so many evil things. That's pretty unclear from an American perspective, they have explicitly governed for the good of the rich for the past 40 years, they have dismantled the social safety net, they have put huge numbers of black Americans in prison.

Many people find their focus on identity politics self-serving and deeply racist.

The Democrats have been warmongers, as much as the Republicans, and for all the press Trump's craziness gets, they don't really have much of a moral leg to stand on themselves. Many of the tings the press has pointed out about Trump have been going on, in one form or another, for years.

There is a whole host of traditional Democrat voters who feel betrayed by that party and have for years..
