What's your claim to fame? *lighthearted*

Inspired by an article I've just read online whilst waiting for my train, AIBU to ask...what is your claim to fame? The weaker the claim the funnier, such as "I dated Margaret Thatcher's cousins drama tutor" e.g. But any will do.

I'll go first. I served Gary Cahill (footballer) once as a waitress; he came into the budget restaurant I worked at...and didn't even foot the bill!

A bit of a silly post I know, but the article I read had me giggling. If this post makes at least one person giggle that would be great Grin - I think we're all in need of a laugh right now!

Working in the community in the NHS I once visited a man who used to write the scripts for Coronation Street. His little flat was filled with memorabilia.
I asked Christopher Biggins the way to the toilets.
I used to do Spin classes with Roy Cropper off Coronation Street.
Best one was shaking the original Sooty’s paw, when He was on Harry Corbett’s hand.

Cocothefirst · 04/11/2020 12:50

My dad's legs were on a Nationwide report about the world marble championships in the early '90s. He was playing.

In1997 I was in the audience for two celebrity editions of Ready Steady Cook. And Ainsley Harriot made a suggestive comment to my mum.

MisiSam · 04/11/2020 12:53

The lady who played the wife in faulty towers, sat near us on a train in the 90s and said I was a pretty little girl 😇 also my dad had a pint with rik mayall before he was famous, he told my dad to watch out for his name!

MisiSam · 04/11/2020 12:57

Oh and my husbands great uncle was sir dirk bogarde, which means my toddler is related to a sir!

Devilesko · 04/11/2020 13:01

I was in Rocky Horror with Tim Curry.
I played Columbia Grin

Travelling stage version.
Blackpool was our best run in 1987 iirc.

Zolaanna · 04/11/2020 13:08

My sister's step son is friends with John Craven's grandson

My husband once did a hurdle over Collin Jackson for a photoshoot.

Back in the 1990s my mum spotted Collin Jackson buying yoghurts in Tesco's.

My sister sat next to Michael Ball during a flight to New York.

I once shared a Dublin flight with Jodie Marsh, she was wearing a neon velour pink tracksuit.

Noitjustwontdo · 04/11/2020 13:11

A few minor celebs followed me on Twitter when I used it a few years back. Gail Porter, Michael Barrymore, the comedian Mark Little (and his lesser known son who was in stomp) and obviously more famous- Yoko Ono. I remember being excited when Yoko followed me but I think she follows everyone Grin. I don’t know why the others ended up following me, I watched The Wright Stuff a lot so that’s probably got something to do with it. Mark Little’s son asked me out via DM but I declined.

My now ex step sister went out with Martin Compston (Line of Duty) when we were in high school but dumped him a few weeks later as he was a bit too neddy.

Myself and most of the town were also extras in his film Sweet Sixteen Blush

NRatched · 04/11/2020 13:38

Ugh mine is boring, I knew a couple of contestants on big brother. Anthony (bb6) I used to drink with, and Charlie (bb10) my ex had a fitght with him once as he was up himself and kicked off because some poor girl walked into him in a crowded club.

MIL insists Rick Astely used to babysit DH Hmm No photos, but she is adamant it happened, until he was about 4.

PenguinsOnParade · 04/11/2020 14:34

My second cousins (once removed) were a group who did pretty well on X Factor a few years ago.

SunshineCake · 04/11/2020 16:13

Regretting posting part of mine now.

DazedWifelet · 04/11/2020 18:16

Patricia Routledge (aka Hyacinth Bucket from TV program) is the godmother to a very close friend of DH. I haven't met her, yet.

Devilesko · 04/11/2020 18:44

Dazed

OMG an amazing woman, she does so much for young singers you know.
Awards in her name and she also gives bursaries, very generous and wonderful woman.
I'm so jealous, would love to meet her.

@Happyadventurer

I spilt ink on Donovan’s suede jacket. Not on purpose but I was horrified by it.

Back in the 60s some friends and I saw him on the stairs in Liverpool Street station. He asked if anyone had a pen so that he could sign autographs so I gave him mine - a fountain pen that dripped down the front of his immaculate suede jacket. I was mortified but, bless him, he said nothing. He threw me a disgusted look and carried on signing. I didn’t have the nerve to ask for an autograph after that and it haunted me for years. If he hadn’t been so nice about it I doubt that I would have felt so guilty.

If you are on here Donovan (or Mrs D) I would happily pay the cleaning bill.

Giving you a disgusted look is hardly being nice about it Confused.

I gate crashed the 1999 NYE party held by the director of the video for the single You're Gorgeous by Babybird.

I used to share a house with someone that went to primary school with Laura Davies the golfer.

And my mum used to go to church with the mother of Noel Edmonds second (?) wife. Possibly his 3rd. Definitely not the first. I once collected something from her house. The mother in law, not the wife Grin

I also used to share a house with someone who worked at Blobbyland or whatever it was called in Devon.

mummyplusbump · 04/11/2020 19:14

Years ago I sat in front of Sean Connery on a plane to Scotland. I also stood next to Simon Le Bon in a First Class airline lounge. Also was on the row behind Leo Sayer and Denise Van Outen at a concert and Simon Mayo at another concert.

The best was having Tom Hardy walk into Costa in front of me in the Sussex village where I think he now lives, he orders his flat white and left, I was waiting behind him in the queue and was wondering why the girls were hysterical behind the till until they told me who it was! The only other customer in the shop thought it was a shoplifter or something all the commotion it caused!

Didn’t have the confidence to speak to any of them though!

HitchcockAndScully · 04/11/2020 19:18

Richard Blackwood once checked out my arse and winked at me when I worked (a long time ago) in a jewellery shop....😏

radioband · 04/11/2020 19:23

I was on TV am I think it was called then when Lorraine Kelly used to show photos of kids and wish them happy birthday. I felt famous for the day as everyone at school was talking about it 🤣

MaelyssQ · 04/11/2020 19:26

Brigit Forsyth (Thelma out of The Likely Lads) stopped me in the street and asked me where she could get a dress altered. I told her where the 'we mend zips, take up trousers etc' shop was and she said thank you.

At a Manchester hotel, Amanda Holden asked me how I was and how the girls were getting on at school. I have 2 sons and I've never ever met her before. I said they were fine, thanks, and she offered to buy me a glass of wine.

AdventCalender2 · 04/11/2020 19:28

Oooh. I dated an actor who was on TV for like 5 minutes.

Even better than this though, does anyone remember the advert 'Jack proposed, said ok'. It was for a car in the late 90s. Met Jack out and he came back to ours for an afterparty. I thought I was sooo funny as I called him Jack all night Hmm.

AdventCalender2 · 04/11/2020 19:32

Also met Pat Sharp at a Bryan Adams concert. Asked for his autograph and he said what's your name, I said 'sorry?' He repeated, this went on 5 times (I couldn't hear what he was saying) until my brother saved the day and said 'It's xx'. I was 12.

AdventCalender2 · 04/11/2020 19:32

Placemarking to come back to on Friday night with wine Grin

UserABCD1234 · 04/11/2020 19:34

One of mine is that I used to go out with the cousin of a fairly famous actor (he's been in lots of prime time tv series).

AdventCalender2 · 04/11/2020 19:38

I also have John Major's autograph as when I was 10 I wrote to lots of famous people and said I was doing a competition with a friend to see who could get as many autographs as possible. I lied, there was no friend doing a competition, it was just me!!!

GreenPlum · 06/11/2020 05:39

DD went to school with the great great granddaughter of King George V.
