AIBU to say that threads that state a position (usually a big goady) and then end it with "Discuss." GIVE ME THE RAGE!!!!!

Big goady. Bit goady. Same thing!

YANBU. It's basically saying "entertain me".

Cabinfever10 · 02/11/2020 11:50

I usually assume that its a lazy journalist

TheChippendenSpook · 02/11/2020 11:56

I hate it too. I also really dislike 'dear reader' or 'let me tell you this, reader...'

Oxyiz · 02/11/2020 11:57

Yes. My instant feeling is "shan't".

Absolutely agree. I stop reading.
Youandmeareluckytobeus · 02/11/2020 12:00

Yes, it's awful. Stated like an order or a question on an exam paper. Very bloody irritating.

grapewine · 02/11/2020 12:01

I always want to say that it isn't an exam with essay questions.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 02/11/2020 12:02

What it’s actually saying is ‘ I know I’m right and I’m giving you the opportunity to agree with me.’

grapewine · 02/11/2020 12:02

Youandmeareluckytobeus snap!

Lobelia123 · 02/11/2020 12:03

Completely agree!!! Gets my back up no end, its like someone cracking a whip and demanding you perform.

Ha ha ha, yes! Grin

I also hate "Presented without comment" posts on social media.

I can't bring myself to get too worked up about it, albeit I do think MN draws in those who think they're hilarious writers in need of a fawning audience, which grates for me but clearly some people enjoy it given how quickly those threads fill up with the 'omg OP I am CREASING/just snorted so hard DH woke up and asked what I was doing/spilt my wine on the dog/insert unlikely hyperbole.

Each to their own though, we don't all like the same things or have the same sense of humour, and are all on here for different reasons and escapism I'm sure. Nothing wrong with a bit of fun if it gets people engaged and laughing, especially at the moment.

tiredbuthappytoday · 02/11/2020 12:06

Agree! Also asking for recommendations and ending it with "go!" like it's the entertainment we've all been waiting for!

I'm beginning to hate replies to an OP that begin

'You do know that XYZ, don't you'

Subtext being: you are a wilfully ignorant cunt.

CovidNightmare · 02/11/2020 12:41

I have been on mumsnet since 2004, and in that time I have seen more threads complaining about "Discuss" than threads with "Discuss". 🤷‍♀️

If I had to choose I'd say I find those wanting to discuss "Discuss" more irritating.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 02/11/2020 12:46

I don't like any of those, I'll add this one:

"What do we think?"

As if there's some sort of 'Borg'.
