English Supermarkets- non essential items

Does anyone know if/think they will stop selling non essentials like Wales did?

Would be good to hear from supermarket staff if it is suspected.

Also if there's any advice from supermarket staff about best times to visit/items that sell out etc then that would be helpful too.

No, they are allowed to continue to sell whatever they usually do. The fiasco in Wales isn't being applied to England.

No, they never stopped even during the 1st lockdown. This one is going to be even less strict.

Even if they did, online shopping works just as well anyway.

Tumbleweed101 · 02/11/2020 09:43

Let’s hope it doesn’t happen. Four weeks is a bit too long to be without some ‘non essentials’.

No my DP works for a supermarket they were told yesterday that they will carry on selling everything and no restrictions at all on number of items people can buy

First time around there were supply issues because the whole world was in crisis and we didn't know how bad it would get, this isn't the case now. Also goods were being extra packahed and sprayed/held back in warehouses to protect retail staff, again we know that isn't necessary.

There are no plans to stop selling any goods in the UK.

@teenagetantrums I don't suppose he got any word on online delivery did he? Will it go back to how it was before with the priority slots?

WitchesSpelleas · 02/11/2020 10:46

Supermarkets can still sell non-essential items - so can other retailers on a click and collect basis. I would imagine places like Argos and Currys will operate click and collect, as they did during the last lockdown.

TicTacTwo · 02/11/2020 11:28

Johnson said essential shops can sell non-essential goods.

EvilPea · 02/11/2020 11:35

I don't think they will follow the welsh model as it was meant to stop unfair competition but i think it just pushed it online instead.

I am hoping more independents will do click and collect as well.

Garden Centres are staying open this time and they sell all sorts of stuff as well

unmarkedbythat · 02/11/2020 11:54

Hopefully not. I think reading the smug police twat tweets about stopping people buying non essentials would end me.
