To ask if I can do a petition outdoors while people walk to the supermarket?

Would appreciate your thoughts as to whether we can legally do this next weekend.

Along with one other, we had planned to stand in the High Street and ask local residents to sign a petition to submit responses to the current council planning consultation that closes next week.

We had planned to stand outside at a social distance, with a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Can we still do this?
Anecdotally, several residents say they have found the council’s online form difficult to access, so the intention here was to provide a straightforward means of submitting comments to a public consultation on housing development in the area.

Can we do this next weekend during lockdown? Really not sure at all.

sharing a pen?

CambozolaCrackers · 01/11/2020 18:21

We will be writing down the details with our pen (not individuals)
We will have a gdpr policy taped to the bottom of each clipboard for individuals to read so no contact needed

Why don’t you ask the police?

CambozolaCrackers · 01/11/2020 18:26

@Stripesnomore my first instinct was to think that might be an overreaction, but on reflection, probably not!

I wouldn't have thought so, it doesn't fall into any of the guidelines as far as I can see. I'm not sure many people would appreciate being approached at this time either.

HeddaGarbled · 01/11/2020 18:31

I think probably no - it doesn’t seem to fit any of the stay-at-home exceptions. Have you thought of putting something on your local Facebook groups?

CarrotCakeSupprise · 01/11/2020 18:33

I suspect not, and I suspect that doing so would irritate many people rather than convert them to your cause.

Jeezoh · 01/11/2020 18:33

I don’t think it counts as a reasonable reason to be outside your home, however well intentioned you are, sorry.

CambozolaCrackers · 01/11/2020 18:36

Thanks for the feedback. Will cancel our plans and concentrate solely online.

My thoughts are...

We are being asked to work from home if we can. Surveys could be done via Facebook groups etc just as easily as on the street.

So you should probably do it all online. IMO

Cbatothinkofausername · 01/11/2020 18:39

Have you searched for local Facebook groups? Some have thousands of members.

Skysblue · 01/11/2020 23:14

Wow. After the news conference, the government guidance on the website, and all of the summaries on the bbc website etc, people STILL don’t get it?

Just wow.
