New paint or old?

I need a 2.5 litre tin of paint for my bedroom. I have 1.5l left from a job in December 2019 and another 1.5l left from a job in December 2018. Same colour, Dulux Trade Diamond Matt. Should I mix them together in one tin to make use of the leftovers, or should I buy new paint?

id use them

FuzzyPuffling · 01/11/2020 15:52

I'd definitely use them. They don't sound very old to me. ( I always use up old paint until it goes unusably hard!)

Mix & use.

blage · 01/11/2020 16:21

Interesting. I was expecting the opposite response!

Why? That would be terribly wasteful.

Paint shouldn't go off that quickly, especially if it was stored at a reasonably cool temperature, with the lids on tight. If you're worried, start with just a small section and see how it turns out.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 01/11/2020 16:44

Depends on the shades.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 01/11/2020 16:44

Ah-same colour. I'd do it.

TheTeenageYears · 01/11/2020 17:04

The worst that can happen is you create more work for yourself if the paint doesn't go on very well, it's not like the walls can be poisoned by old paint or come out in a rash as would be the case with food or cosmetics. Take the chance to hopefully save the money from buying new and do your bit for the environment in the process.

PawPawNoodle · 01/11/2020 17:07

I'd do the first coat with the 2018 paint and the second with the 2019.

Bluntness100 · 01/11/2020 17:13

Be very very careful mixing, I did it once, looked totally and utterly mixed, it wasn’t. And I ended up with streakywalls. Where you could see both shades. Was awful and I had to repaint.

There is a reason paint mixing counters use a machine which vigorously mixes them hard for three mins.

Sorry, are they some colour? If so then crack on.
