I'm going out tonight to a restaurant with a friend I haven't seen in a while, this is actually the first time I'm going out with friends since the 1st lockdown back in March. When I see her, I don't know if I should hug? Don't want it to be awkward. What do you guys do with your friends with the Covid situation?

We're about to go into a lockdown. Of course you can't hug

Timeandtune · 01/11/2020 15:00

Hug my friends? I don’t even hug my son anymore.

roarfeckingroarr · 01/11/2020 15:05

Yes we have been.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 15:05

I hugged a friend yesterday. First time we've seen eachother since Feb. She was having a bad day and we needed that physical connection and comfort. Best hug I've had since June.

TBH, in a rain lashed carpark with 25mph winds blasting us and our faces past each other's shoulders, I doubt there is any viral risk. Plus at the end of half term, it's a comparatively low risk time as her risk of viral exposure was reduced for 8 days.

Treaclepie19 · 01/11/2020 15:05

I haven't hugged anyone outside of my family that I live with since early march! And I am a hugger.

CraftyGin · 01/11/2020 15:06

No - elbow bump at most.

LindaEllen · 01/11/2020 15:06

No hugs. Regardless of which tier you are in, you can still not go within 2m of someone who isn't in your household. This is one of the only things that has been constant from the beginning.

KatherineJaneway · 01/11/2020 15:07

I haven't hugged friends apart from my bubble.

cheezy · 01/11/2020 15:07

I hug friends who want to hug.

AgeLikeWine · 01/11/2020 15:08

Absolutely not. I haven’t hugged, kissed or shaken hands with anyone other than DP since February.

teenagetantrums · 01/11/2020 15:10

I saw my friend's last month. First time in a year as l moved away. We all hugged. Expect one who having cancer treatment. It's a personal risk isn't it. All my friends been working from home no kids. Expect me who gets a week test anyway

BessMarvin · 01/11/2020 15:14

I haven't hugged anyone (I try not to anyway).

I am a bit surprised how one sided the replies are as my Facebook has a few photos of people with their friends, standing right next to them indoors, and I know they don't live with them. So I assumed lots of people don't care about social distancing with their friends for some reason

NameChange84 · 01/11/2020 15:17

Totally inappropriate to consider hugging given we are in a global pandemic and people are being told to give each other space.

Safety first please.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 01/11/2020 15:21

Hugging and kissing others doesn't come naturally to me so am loving this!

bg21 · 01/11/2020 15:23

yes I'm hugging and licking people

maddiemookins16mum · 01/11/2020 15:35

I haven’t hugged anyone apart from DP since March. Dd (16) is not the huggy kind either.

neonjumper · 01/11/2020 15:54

@Hadjab

My friends partner died during lock down ... we did not hug

😳😳

Why the funny faces ?
FastnetLundyRockall · 01/11/2020 16:19

No but then I avoided hugging before Covid anyway, I never understood it and find it a bit weird. Some close friends did used to hug me purely because they found my reaction of going stiff and giving them awkward little upper arm pats in return funny, but they've stopped now. Thankfully.

Thisismylife1 · 01/11/2020 16:20

No of course not! I’m so cross about people not following the rules.

Tiredmum100 · 01/11/2020 16:33

No hugs and I haven't even been able to see my friends for months due to local lockdowns and then the 2 week fire break (I'm in Wales). Enjoy seeing your friend. Very jealous here!

OrtamLeevz · 01/11/2020 16:36

Snap.

I've seen a number of friends outdoors over the past few months but haven't got closer than 6 feet.

IndecentFeminist · 01/11/2020 16:37

Nope, but I'm not a hugger anyway. I'd rather not be that close to anyone outside of the family at any time...a global pandemic has been a gift in that regard 😂 I don't even hug my parents or sister really.

wishfull888 · 01/11/2020 16:40

No hugs since March and that counts for family too (that you don't live with)

blacksax · 01/11/2020 16:40

The only person outside my immediate family that I've hugged is my NDN in the summer - we were both arriving home at the same time. She was in floods of tears as she'd just had a phone call to say her mum had died.

Needs must.

But there are other considerations in life apart from Covid. Not that it ever feels like it, but it's still true.
