Would you do a 5k race at the moment ?

Supposed to be doing an organised 5k mass event (before the new lockdown), but just feel unsure about it. I will be attending alone but there will be people constantly running past, breathing heavily etc.
Not sure it's safe, what do others think ?

No, do a virtual 5k race instead

Versace104 · 31/10/2020 22:14

Might do that yeah, really surprised it was even going ahead tbh, Parkrun has been cancelled since March.

No, I’d give that a miss.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/10/2020 22:24

I'd take a bet it will be cancelled. Plan on a virtual alternative.

whatsbinhappnin · 31/10/2020 22:47

Another benefit of virtual- No one getting in your way!

I've done two races this autumn. 7.5mi and HM. TBH, it was easier social distancing at organised events than it is just walking around public places, and certainly lower risk than doing the food shopping!

whatsbinhappnin · 31/10/2020 22:56

@BogRollBOGOF can you link the evidence where crowds of runners is safer than going to a supermarket? Havent heard of that but sounds interesting.

They must have changed the arrangements to make it "covid secure" or it wouldn't be happening. Check what precautions they've taken, it won't be like a normal 5k race.

Surprised it's going ahead tbh - we haven't had road races around here since March.

And no I wouldn't be doing it. You can run 5k any time, and it's not like it'll be an "important" race (eg for a road race league or whatever) at the moment.
