He’s met someone else nothing happened yet but I think we know where it’s going. I wish him well and happiness but we are 30k in debt and I can’t see how we can separate. Need to keep it clear cut for small people. Advice please

Any pensions to take into account?

I would see a solicitor asap.

BlueThistles · 31/10/2020 18:47

Bankruptcy 🌺

Meuniere · 31/10/2020 18:57

Debts might be in your name but they are a joint responsibility if I understand well.
YY to pension and any savings you might have.

Solicitors ASAP too.

Te divorce is not your fault because you were working ‘too hard’. As the higher earner, you’ve worked your arse off to try and take out of debts. I would have expected him to support you. Not tell you you didn’t give him enough attention so he looked somewhere else.

You'll be fine. The debts are effectively joint as accrued through the marriage. You have no assets the creditors can seize so they will have to accept a deal Definitely find out what any pensions are worth

I agree, solicitor ASAP.

In one sentence you say 'we are in debt' and in the next you say the debt is yours. How awfully unfair. Seek legal advice on this.

Solicitor, yes. Don’t blame yourself, OP Flowers

HateIsNotGood · 31/10/2020 20:50

I deleted my message because it wouldn't be as helpful as PPs who suggested getting a Solicitor ASAP. what a Fucking Cunt

RB68 · 31/10/2020 21:32

The debt is shared esp if you can show you as a family benefited

I would see a solicitor asap as you need to protect yourself against claims against you for monies especially as you have the higher salary and if you have pensions they are likely worth more. I would look for assets in the house to reduce the debt asap myself but technically that would not be right....

They rent - she's said there are no assets.
