There is much doom and gloom at present so would love to hear of little things that make you happy.
Mine are when I do the laundry and all socks pair up with no lost ones.

Also when I stroke my sleeping dog and he groans in a contented way.
The gentle pop of a cork when opening a new bottle of wine and the glugging noise as you fill a glass.

I was out and was going to be 3 or 4 hours late getting back. I insisted DH went to bed and didn't wait up for me.
When I got in at 2am their was a flask of tea and a sandwich waiting for me 💜

@ShinyMe I have a Jack Russell like this .

What makes me laugh is when he's chasing a fly around the house. He keeps trying to jump up at it and barking all the time . He's so funny . And the time he found a hedgehog on the lawn and couldn't make it out . Likewise a couple of toys we've given him . I have a video of him with a squeaky rubber pig last Christmas, he bites it then runs off when it squeaks , then runs back up to it barking 🐶💕

Glass of red
Kids football match
Roaring fire
Snow

WonderMoon · 01/11/2020 10:37

My toddler laughing at silly noises, when she dances , cuddles.
When my DH makes me a 'posh' coffee, cuddles on the sofa watching a movie.
Going for walks
When I bake and it actually tastes good!

BikeRunSki · 01/11/2020 10:48

Any meal that I havn’t had to cook myself.

nearlynermal · 01/11/2020 16:00

A tidy house with my dishwasher ad washing machine humming away.

keeprocking · 01/11/2020 16:07

My 8 year old grandson lecturing me on the intricacies of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, it's such a hard job to pretend I'm interested but he deserves it for his effort.

Oooh we had a previous Jack Russell who had a special bark for hedgehogs! She HATED them. My parents live in the middle of nowhere, very rurally, and there were often hedgehogs around in the evenings. We'd let Minnie out for a wee in the garden and then hear this very strange, shrill little bark, and find her standing stock still somewhere, her nose pointing at a hedgehog, doing this bark. We'd have to drag her away. She only ever used the bark on hedgehogs, we used to know when there was one around.

seeing dogs in their coats/jumpers on a really cold day- they look so cared for and trot along all proud and knowing they are a valued part of the family

watching dogs running joyfully on the beach

LabCoatPocket · 01/11/2020 17:59

When DH makes me boiled eggs and soldiers in my favourite egg cup.

When my super cool and very glamourous little sisters tells anyone who will listen how fiercely I protect her and make her feel safe.

When my cat rolls over in a sunbeam to warm his belly and makes a sound like a creaky floorboard.

When my DS (aged 6) asks after others and takes a genuine interest in their welfare.

When I am having disturbed sleep and my very unnaffectionate DH reaches out sleepily and puts his hand on my lower back and makes little reassuring hush noises until I am settled.

Or when he can tell I am coming down with a bug because apparently I make whimpering noises (I know, how irritating - I would tell me to piss off) when I am asleep, so always appears with a drink, toast and paracetamol in the morning.

When my friends genuinely belly laugh when we are together, and relax after they have had hard time.

When my step mum looks after my DS at the beach, she has a magic way of getting rid of all the sand off him, and he always sits between her legs after swimming in the sea, wrapped in a towel whilst she gives him sandwiches and crisps and makes sure he stays hydrated. They just sit really relaxed and stare at the sea, eating and happy.

I have lots of things that make me smile and I feel really lucky after writing all that down.

LabCoatPocket · 01/11/2020 18:04

Oh and seeing really old couples holding hands and supporting one another whilst out walking.

SummerHouse · 01/11/2020 19:07

Commented yesterday that seeing a heron makes me happy. I only flipping saw one today. Came back on to mention it and saw lovely message from bearlyactive

What a lovely example of what goes around comes around. Thanks for this thread op. Definitely needed at the moment!

Egg fried rice

Autumn colours.
Walking by the coast and listening to the waves roll in then pull back.
The beauty of the full moon seemingly lit from within.
My mobile ringing and I realise it's my uni student son.
Yorkshire puds coming out of the oven.

Mumbum2011 · 01/11/2020 19:40

Cuddles from my dc and ddog
Cosy house
Candles burning
Clean bedsheets
Clean house

A glass of Prosecco after doing all the above :-)

rslsys · 01/11/2020 19:49

First up and walk down the landing with the smell of a fresh loaf wafting up the stairs from the bread maker. Then making the coffee and taking it back upstairs to wake up OH. The mixture of the scents of coffee & fresh bread can't fail to bring a smile.

Whatthechicken · 01/11/2020 19:54

Last night I went out for a meal with my husband (it doesn’t happen very often). But I felt uncomfortable in everything I tried on. I said ‘I’m just going out in a t shirt and jeans’. My already suited and booted husband recognised how uncomfortable I was and he went and changed into jeans and a t shirt.

My dogs eyes are thick brown chocolate drops, full of trust and love.

One of my chickens when she finds something exciting after digging makes the loveliest thick, deep and soft cluck, cluck, cluck-cluck sound, clearly enthused without wanting to attracted the attention of the other chickens (who would steel it off her).

My kids when they say they have missed me and give those tight cling on cuddles.

This makes me think of one of my happy moments: scene in Gosford Park where someone brings Maggie Smith a full English in bed and she does that little thin smile and goes: "yum yum yum" Grin

bearlyactive · 01/11/2020 21:44

In light of SummerHouse's comment to me yesterday, a simple thing that makes me smile is when other people make active efforts to make others smile! That makes no sense, does it? Grin Grin

bearlyactive · 01/11/2020 21:52

Other things I've thought of during the day:

A new song from my new favourite singers (Mat and Savanna Shaw in case anyone is interested)

The scene in Mamma Mia 2 where they dance on the boat and everyone's happy.

Hearing of little random acts of kindness. One day, I swear I will pay for someone else's meal at a drive-thru!!

Finally finishing a job.

Echoing a PP, getting into freshly line-dried sheets that smell of the outdoors and the wind.

The smell of a BBQ in the summer - was out walking on VE Day this year and it made my day Grin

Thinking of the perfect thoughtful Xmas gift for someone who's having a hard time.

comingintomyown · 01/11/2020 22:06

Dew on a glass of white wine
Rain falling on the skylight windows
The journey through the seasons of my garden
Birds washing in the bird bath
Hearing my adult dc laugh - that should be no 1

SparklesAllOver · 02/11/2020 13:16

Loving all these posts, cheering me up during a difficult time.

Something else made me smile just now, I had made brownies, my son ate one and gave the bowl to the dog to lick - they both looked up at me and smiled contentedly!
(I know it is disgusting but our dog is just another family member and he is our equal and we use a hot dishwasher to clean dishes Blush).
