To ask you what simple things make you smile?

There is much doom and gloom at present so would love to hear of little things that make you happy.
Mine are when I do the laundry and all socks pair up with no lost ones.

Also when I stroke my sleeping dog and he groans in a contented way.
The gentle pop of a cork when opening a new bottle of wine and the glugging noise as you fill a glass.

Swimming/walking/cycling outdoors, in any weather

When my supermarket shop comes to a whole pound, no pence.

When the mileage in my car moves from eg 49,999 to 50,000.

The love my children have for each other. I’m told it won’t last (by meanies) but they are usually so kind and affectionate with each other. They spent a walk today holding hands and chirping away to each other.

Also the meow my cat gives every morning when we get up. It’s a single meow, really loud and vocal - it sounds like she is saying hello. It never fails to make me smile. She doesn’t do it at any other time.

Seeing a herron.
In bed reading to DS.
Anything to do with Christmas.
Feel good films e.g the Holiday (love that film).

Oh my god, this! How old are they? Mine are 8 and 10 and still each others best friend. I hope that lasts forever.

My cat sitting on my lap, like right now. She looks like she's smiling.

A good song coming on the radio while I'm in the car.

Someone messaging me first to ask me how I am (this NEVER happens).

My dgs face timing me and dh.
My dog jumping on the bed, grabbing the duvet in her mouth and trying to pull it off.
Dh bringing me a cup of tea in the morning.

@SummerHouse mine are 9 and 5. I’m hoping it lasts forever too, it’s so special isn’t it. It’s helped immeasurably during lockdown!

@bearlyactive how are you? Hope you are doing ok. I think feeling happy at hearing laughter in a restaurant is such an selfless, generous thing. You deserve out of the blue messages asking how you are.

The sea.
It never fails to fill me with wonder.
Seeing all the globes of mistletoe in trees when the leaves have fallen.( Always seem to be in globes.)

Yes to farting, snoring dogs - big NO to husbands doing these things!!

Antiphonal purring from my two old ladies.

My new gorgeous wool and cashmere Crombie overcoat cheap from eBay.

Snow falling and knowing that classes will be cancelled (sadly, the advent of Zoom may take away this great pleasure this winter!)

The smell of bread baking, Autumn colours, the way my dog's ears and tail bob in unison when she runs, reading, feeding he birds.

Driving in the countryside where I'm so fortunate to live, and seeing all the beautiful colours of autumn.

Seeing an old couple still holding hands and giving an affectionate kiss on the cheek

Watching my boy sleep peacefully, with no care in the world

A boiled gag and toasted soldier's whilst watching Harry Potter in my pj's

A thunderstorm rumbling on whilst I'm in my bed.

The sound of rain and wind against my window

A perfect poached egg
My cat stretching out so she’s half on/half off the bed or sofa or whatever, she looks so funny
My DP bringing me a bacon sandwich in bed on a Sunday morning

I'm smiling because I have a new word from justgeton - 'petrichor'. Thank you.

Dogs rolling (not in fox poo though). Also cats, horses; such joyful 'in the moment' physicality.

I'm fine, that wasn't meant to be a "woe is me" post, but thank you so much for that comment - this is what has made me smile today!

My fosterlings aged 11 months and 6 months, the 11 month old is walking a damned proud of himself, the 6 month old just loves to laugh.

The way my four year old talks to our dog when she thinks no one is listening. Our dog is big, old and smelly - not the cutest animal, but she just chats away to him in a slightly American accent (for some reason). Asks him how his day was, calls him 'cutiepie', and tells him he's such a good dog and how much she loves him.

And yes, birds too ... glad it's other people too, I thought I was just getting old

When I see a fish jump clear out of the water when I'm walking by or swimming in the lake.

What a lovely thread.

For me...my two little boys (age 5 and 16 months) playing and giggling together. The big one took a long time to accept the little one and now adores him. Little one laughs more for his brother than anyone else.

I love the way my 2year old chats away to herself and her teddies in the morning when she first wakes up (she repeats any old crap she's heard in the daytime to them and it's very sweet).

My dog. I just love her snuggly ways and how she gets excited when we can have some cuddles as we don't get much time just us now the kids are here.

Seeing my fence gradually change colour as I manage to get a few slats painted every day between the showers
The fact that I have full height windows in my bedroom so I only have to open my eyes to see views over the countryside. Especially when I wake at dawn at this time of year (and then snuggle down and go back to sleep.
And these little guys, who are still visiting every night although they'll soon be sleeping for the winter (lucky them, I wish I could)
