Obviously IANBU 🎃.

I love these threads and couldn’t see one for this Halloween.

OK, I will start. I have told these on MN before over the years but here goes.

A family member owns a very old, beautiful but decidedly spooky house. Many members of the family have seen and heard strange things there over the years (footsteps when no one there, figures, feeling of being watched and once a full blow apparition) - not a nasty vibe but definitely unsettling. I was staying there overnight in the room where most activity has been reported.

I was reading in bed and had been there for about half an hour when DH rang me to say goodnight. He jokingly asked how the ghosts were and I said “ha ha, no sign yet”. No sooner had these words passed my lips than a hanger which had been hanging on the door handle on the other side of the room (about 3m away as it’s a large room) fell to the floor with a loud clatter. I jumped out of my skin! No one else was awake in the house, nothing had moved and there isn’t a cat or anything which could have been responsible. I guess it could have been teetering for the last half an hour and just randomly fallen off at that moment but it freaked me out! I rather nervously said “erm, ok I know you’re here but that scared me so please let me sleep in peace.” I didn’t sleep much that night... 👀

There’s a poster on here with a truly terrifying story about when her dog ran off into a woods at night when she was looking after a friends house.
Hopefully she’ll see this and tell it again.
I’m not easily scared but it freaked me out!

There was literally one of these threads yesterday and there have been hundreds generally.

Peasbewithyou · 31/10/2020 09:03

Ooh is that Savernake forest? I’ve read that one on a previous thread. If it’s true then it’s absolutely terrifying. My own stories are incredibly tame by comparison thank god

Can you link to the one yesterday @Lockheart?

And yes I know there have been loads in the past, I couldn’t see a recent one though and I absolutely love them. If you don’t then no need to be involved.

Not spooky as such, but I definitely felt like my grandad spirit was watching out for me-
I'd finished an abusive relationship and was on my way to my first appointment with womens aid, after giving my statement to the police. The womens aid office was up a steep hill and I was so nervous my legs were like jelly. I was so nervous and frightened that I changed my mind about going, and stopped in my tracks to check the train times to go back home.
As I was frantically trying to get my fucking 4G to work, a car drove slowly up the hill behind me playing "you'll never walk alone" - my grandad favourite song (I sang it at his funeral).
It was right at the part that says

"Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone"

I just stood there staring at this poor driver like an idiot Grin

Anyway, it gave me the extra kick up the arse I needed. I kept that moment in my head all the way through court and every meeting I had to go to. I felt like someone had my back that day.

I went on a Brownie trip at a designated Brownie camping place, middle of nowhere, the ‘camping’ part was in an old converted barn. It was me and 3 other adults (one a man).
One night I left the others on the middle floor and went down to the toilet, I heard footsteps walk outside the loo into the kitchen and clearly heard a mans voice but couldn’t really make out what he was saying, presuming they’d come down to the kitchen I left the loo and went in, no one there, went back upstairs and the man and one of the other women was still in the sitting room and the other woman was upstairs with the children, I mentioned it to them, none of them had been downstairs. We started talking about it and the other leader came down from speaking to the girls and said oh yea the girls keep saying they hear a mans voice at the end of the bedroom, when they first arrived two of them came running, screaming out of the room because a man had spoken to them (this was before the male helper had arrived).
The toilet, kitchen and bedroom where on the lower and upper floor of the old barn building.
There was a woman on site who helped with activities, I asked her if there was anyone else (maintenance man? Etc), nope just her and us for miles around.
It wasn’t a horrible presence/feeling, just disembodied!

Our old house was once a miners cottage and there, was something about the bottom of the stairs. Every time you'd get this feeling that something was there and my husband felt it too.
Even worse, was my daughter was about 18 months and one night when her dad put her to bed she said "don't shut the door daddy or my friends won't be able to come in." Freaked both of us out as we had sometimes heard her talking or laughing in the morning but never thought much of it.
Strangely after our second daughter was born the feeling at the bottom of the stairs went and my daughter didn't mention her friends again.

We took DD to an outside evening event when she was a toddler, her Gran had recently passed away. We were stood waiting for others to catch us up and she pointed over to the next (empty) field and said ‘My Gran’s over there watching us’.

A relative has recently experienced exactly the same thing with a baby under 12 months, as she did with a sibling of the same age a few years previously.
In a certain room in the house (where she has been told a previous owner died) both babies have been seen smiling and happily waving at someone who isn’t there.

I should add that the house had a lovely warm atmosphere from when we very first looked at it, so although it’s very spooky, it’s not as scary as it might be!
