Turns out I was absolutely not unreasonable.

I posted earlier this week about being furious with GPs not seeing my DS or taking anything seriously because he had a temperature and they didn’t want to see him due to covid.

I don’t know how to paste a link her ... but same user name.

My DS is now in hospital extremely unwell and is having IV antibiotics whilst we await multiple tests. I’m furious, the hospital are furious. He is now on day 7 of having a fever and we still don’t know why he’s not getting better.

I feel shit and I’m so worried about why he’s not getting better.

I didn't see first thread but nothing worse than a severe ear infection that didn’t need to happen really, what a shame hope he feels better soon

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 31/10/2020 10:51

OP, hope your DS is better today X

Dopeyduck · 31/10/2020 13:36

DS has had a stable night following IV antibiotics. His temperature resolved quickly about 6 hours after the first infusion and he’s eaten this morning for the first time in 8 days. Will be having more antibiotics and waiting on further blood tests etc. Looks like we’re in until Sunday at the earliest.

Looks like he’s on the mend. Let just hope he hadn’t caught covid whilst we’re in here.

We’re being well looked after now.

No doubt we will be released in time for lock down. This week has been monumentally shit! Thanks for all those who have sent kind words, reading these comments has been a welcome distraction.

So glad to hear your update. Once you're up to it, definitely complain. GP surgery, local Clinical Commissioning Group (or Health Board if you're in a devolved country), CQC if necessary and the GMC. Using Covid as an excuse not to see patients for 'what iffery' isn't good enough.

Don't forget to take care of yourself too Thanks.

Alternista · 31/10/2020 13:45

SO GLAD to read your update. Hang in there x

TheApprentice · 31/10/2020 13:50

Good news op! Hang on in there.

Letsgetbizzy · 31/10/2020 13:55

Thank goodness he seems to be on the mend.

Thisismylife1 · 31/10/2020 13:57

Hope things continue to improve OP X

MrsJonesAndMe · 31/10/2020 14:01

I saw your original thread and I'm sorry you had not been seen. Wonderful update and I hope that they will find out the cause too.

converseandjeans · 31/10/2020 14:04

I remember your other thread. I can't work out why GPs won't see people. Hope your DS gets better soon.

FippertyGibbett · 31/10/2020 14:04

Please do complain, even if only to make it better for everyone else coming behind you.
Hope he’s better soon 🤞🏻

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 31/10/2020 14:57

Great news OP for your DS. Stay strong both of you 💪 X

Wellsbells · 31/10/2020 18:29

I hope your son continues to recover and is a lot better very soon. Look after yourself too Flowers

Coffeecak3 · 31/10/2020 18:39

I just dont understand the uk.
In France you get a rendez vous with your dr. You cannot sit in the waiting room unless you are very old or disabled so wait outside.
You wear your mask and the staff wear masks, you use hand gel when going into appointment room.
Dr washes hands. Diagnosis made. More gel.
Dr washes hands.
You leave surgery.

It's simple.

ArchieStar · 31/10/2020 18:41

Hoping he has a swift recovery OP!! 💖

PawPrincess · 31/10/2020 18:42

How horrendous @Dopeyduck !!! Flowers They are selfish wankers a lot of them xx

Dopeyduck · 31/10/2020 19:35

DS continues to improve although bloods not back.

2nd covid test - this one done in hospital was negative.

Hopefully full results back tomorrow and final lot of antibiotics in the afternoon and I’ll be able to get him home.

I’ve written a letter to the GP surgery to complain. The hospital paediatric consultant and the A&E doctor have also written their own letters detailing their concerns,

I guess I don’t really want an outcome. I just want them to keep their eyes open for sick kids and to not write them off if they have a covid symptom. This never was covid.

I’ve seen a couple of people saying I should have gone to A&E - I did!

@Lcats

Op I am really sorry your son is unwell. I hope he gets better quickly. I remember your thread.

I think a more important lesson to learn here, for the future is that you are responsible for your and your child’s health, no matter what the GP or another doctor is saying. There is an A&E and he should have been seen.
Forget about the surgery, seriously. I think even if reprimanded etc etc they are not very likely to get better. Concentrate on your son.

Good luck!

That's right blame the opHmm
hamblebamble · 31/10/2020 19:53

I'm glad your son is getting better. I hope he is out of hospital soon.

I had a similar experience earlier in the year. My child had a 39 degree temperature foe 6 days. I got turned away from the GP and even the first A&E I visited with the old 'it's probably just a virus'. Went to a different A&E, insisted on a blood test was confronted by a receptionist who rolled her eyes and said 'you brought your child here because she has a temperature?), got stuck at the back of a 7 hour queue. Bloods came back: Kawasaki's disease. Inflamation were markers through the roof. I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't pushed for that test.

missymousey · 31/10/2020 20:07

So glad to hear he's improving. Flowers to you and hopefully not long till your little one is right as rain.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/10/2020 20:16

What a relief that he is on the mend now. Horrendous experience for all of you.

notawittyname1954 · 31/10/2020 21:19

What a horrible frightening experience that did not need to go on as long as it did if the drs had reacted better. I think a complaint is well deserved.

Wearenotyourkind · 31/10/2020 21:48

Sending much love to you both, OP

Dopeyduck · 01/11/2020 15:36

We’re going home! Thanks for all the support.
We’ll be in and out of hospital for more antibiotics and to check on him but I’m so relieved to get him home.

Goodness I was only thinking about you at lunch time today. Mind boggled that the doctors wouldn’t see your son & that it came to this. So sorry that you have all had such a rotten time & glad you’re heading home. Flowers
