Turns out I was absolutely not unreasonable.

I posted earlier this week about being furious with GPs not seeing my DS or taking anything seriously because he had a temperature and they didn’t want to see him due to covid.

I don’t know how to paste a link her ... but same user name.

My DS is now in hospital extremely unwell and is having IV antibiotics whilst we await multiple tests. I’m furious, the hospital are furious. He is now on day 7 of having a fever and we still don’t know why he’s not getting better.

I feel shit and I’m so worried about why he’s not getting better.

OP posts:

I had similar with my DD, both hospital and GP fobbing me off yet I knew something was seriously wrong. They wouldn't take me seriously at all. I won't go into details but by the time someone did finally run the proper tests, my DD was paralysed and hours away from being on a ventilator. She ended up needing to be fast tracked to a hospital with paediatric ICU and spent the next 3 months learning to walk again. It took a lot of shouting at HCP to get her a proper diagnosis. I dread to think what would've happened if I'd trusted them. Certainly won't trust them again. Here's hoping your DS gets the care he needs and is home and we'll soon.

WhatifIfeellikeacat · 30/10/2020 23:25

Sending a speedy recovery for your DS, OP! Antibiotics should start working.

I can't believe GPs are refusing to see people with a temperature. What's next, firefighters refusing to attend fires? What was the point of becoming GPs then?

SirVixofVixHall · 30/10/2020 23:26

Oh OP I am so sorry, your poor little boy ! He should have been seen and given antibiotics right away. I hope he recovers quickly.

musicposy · 30/10/2020 23:41

Oh my goodness, I read your OP and can’t believe it has come to this. Hope your DS makes a speedy recovery now.

grassisjeweled · 30/10/2020 23:49

Just read your original op. Bloody negligence IMHO.

Hope DS is better soon 💐

grassisjeweled · 30/10/2020 23:51

The thing is you trust them .

^

Yes, because they are doctors and SHOULD know better.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 30/10/2020 23:51

So sorry, this is awful.

I’m sure I’ve seen in the news a very very similar story over the past few days.....

DeRigueurMortis · 31/10/2020 00:30

So very sorry to hear this OP Thanks

I hope your LO responds quickly to treatment.

It's awful when they are this ill isn't it.

You just wish it was you and you could take the illness away from them.

I'm sure you won't get much rest through worry and stress but try to "nap" as often as you can and keep hydrated - keep a large bottle of water near you and sip it often.

You might not feel like eating much but soup is great for both hydration, ease of eating and some slow release energy.

Remember you need to look after yourself to look after your child Thanks

Mittens030869 · 31/10/2020 01:25

I'm so sorry to see this, I remember your previous thread. I really hope your little one makes a speedy recovery from this. Thanks

blossomtree323 · 31/10/2020 01:33

I'm so sorry to hear this OP. I remember your previous thread too. I hope your LO is soon on the mend Flowers

Prayers for Little one🌼

caringcarer · 31/10/2020 01:59

I hope he is receiving good care now on hospital. You must be worried sick. Definitely make a formal complaint.

Italiangreyhound · 31/10/2020 02:00

I really hope he will be well again soon. Thanks

GreenUp · 31/10/2020 02:14

So sorry to hear this update. I read your original post. Really hope your little one improves quickly. It's doubly troubling that not only your child received poor care but you and your family are being exposed to potential COVID risk being in hospital. It all seems so unnecessary if they'd just treated him properly in the first place. Hope you will complain.

Plantlover101 · 31/10/2020 02:32

A friend of mine is a hospital nurse. She told me: "The GPs are doing f* all and are foisting all their work onto the district nurses."

Plantlover101 · 31/10/2020 02:33

Sorry, meant to add - wishing you and your poor DS all the best, OP.

Rollmopsrule · 31/10/2020 06:14

So sorry to hear this Op. I hope your Ds gets better soon. Flowers

Wishing14 · 31/10/2020 07:10

I am so so sorry you were treated like that, it is absolutely not right. I do not trust any gp or gp surgery to do the right thing, especially in covid times! There is no way you can trust a doctor who has not even seen you in person and the fact that they seem to not realise this is frightening. They might be smart but they aren’t god! A reminder to always follow instincts, especially with a little one, and go to a@e. I’m so glad he’s where he needs to be and I am sending all the wishes in the world he is better soon!

nanbread · 31/10/2020 07:18

That's awful OP

I'm glad he's getting good care now and really hope he's on the mend soon. X

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 31/10/2020 08:24

Utterly disgraceful

We had similar with DD.

I know longer trust doctors

Pipapple · 31/10/2020 08:33

We revere doctors too much I think. Being a doctor doesn't automatically mean you are good at your job or that you are really that smart.

Hope your son gets better soon OP. My daughter ended up in ICU after two GP visits 😥

bluerad · 31/10/2020 09:10

I hope your son gets better soon - sounds like he is getting the best possible care now.
I think GPs in my area have been very poor. Schools are open, along with pubs, leisure centres etc and the GPs are still refusing to do face to face appointments. Simply no excuse.

CottonSock · 31/10/2020 09:27

I hope he improves quickly on the iv. Thinking of you.

YreneTowers · 31/10/2020 09:52

The GP refused to see my DS2 when he had an asthma attack. We have experience of asthma as DS1 has it, but DS2 last had an attack at 9 months old ( he's now 7 ) so we thought he'd escaped it, so he doesn't have his own inhalers.

He was wheezing but still able to breathe and carry on with normal activities, so it wasn't an emergency, but he needed inhalers, but the GP wouldn't see him because any respiratory condition could be COVID, they said.

We phoned 111, and got a call back from the COVID clinic, who were puzzled as he didn't have any symptoms, said they couldn't help us and referred us back to our GP, who still wouldn't see him, because COVID.

His symptoms worsened overnight, as they often do with asthma, so we ended up in A&E. They gave him inhalers and monitored him for a few hours and sent him home with instructions to see our GP within 2 days.

GP still wouldn't see him, because COVID!

I hope your little one gets better soon.

Osirus · 31/10/2020 10:04

Hope he’s ok OP. Your poor little one.

I would be monumentally livid.
