I posted earlier this week about being furious with GPs not seeing my DS or taking anything seriously because he had a temperature and they didn’t want to see him due to covid.

I don’t know how to paste a link her ... but same user name.

My DS is now in hospital extremely unwell and is having IV antibiotics whilst we await multiple tests. I’m furious, the hospital are furious. He is now on day 7 of having a fever and we still don’t know why he’s not getting better.

I feel shit and I’m so worried about why he’s not getting better.

Hope he’s on the mend soon Flowers

I remember your post OP, sending you and your little DS strength. You've been treated so badly, at least he has his mum with him to carry him through this. Be his rock! And sort the rest out later. Flowers

CallmeAngelina · 30/10/2020 21:48

Can't say too much here but PLEASE advocate for your son and go with your gut. Do not be fobbed off.
Glad he's being seen to properly now. It could have ended differently.

NRatched · 30/10/2020 21:51

Hope he feels better soon.

The way some GPs are operating at the minute is disgraceful. I know so many people who have had issues and the GP point blank refuses to see them, and they have ended up at A&E instead. You would think really..at a time where apparently hospitals are overran (though, DH went for an xray in our local 2 days back and was the only one there when usually waiting room is packed) GPs would be trying to help lessen the load. But what seems to be happening, at least at our surgery, is that GPs would much rather people have to go to A&E, so that its not their problem to deal with?!

They refused to see DSD when she had a chest infection, because covid. DSD gets regular chest infections for some reason and knew what it was, but covid. Even said that she doesn't need to be seen as such and the usual meds she is given to clear it up would do fine. Nope. No reason given. Just come back to us in a week if shes no better. Then put off for a few more weeks. Eventually they decided they should see her as it had gone on for so long. And now they think she might have permanent lung damage from an untreated chest infection. The person she had an appointment with clearly had not read history either as she started whinging at us for not making an appointment sooner and basically said it was DSDs fault if it is permanent damage as she should have 'insisted' she be treated Hmm Was the first time ever I have felt really mad at healthcare staff. Hopefully the last too, but it was a shocking situation. And it seems its quite common these days.

Fittata · 30/10/2020 21:51

This is so scary. I had something similar happen with my DS and it has left me with a complete distrust of the medical profession and health anixety...

Hope your DS gets better v soon.

LEELULUMPKIN · 30/10/2020 21:52

I read your original thread OP and was disgusted. Your poor Son is just one of far too many who are being swept aside and being ignored all in the name of Covid.

When our DC's are ill it is the worst feeling in the world and I know from experience just how much you must be suffering right now.

Sending you a virtual handhold and a very unmumsnetty hug.

Your DS is very lucky to have such a great Mum fighting his corner.

I'm so sorry, OP. I hope he's ok.

I really hate how women and children are discounted by GPs as much as they are ... but this is outrageous, not to even have seen your DC.

Christmasfairy2020 · 30/10/2020 21:56

Does your area not have a covid hub???

Sheffield has a few
Rotherham has x1

Elizaaa · 30/10/2020 21:58

I hope he's better soon op.

Crushrush82 · 30/10/2020 22:05

Oh no your poor baby.

My son was in last year with fever, shortness of breath and lathargic. He had pneumonia.

Your son's in the best place now. Concentrate on getting him better then when he's home write a serious complaint.

Because it's absolutely disgusting. Covid or no covid. Babies, children and anyone for that matter are entitled to see a Dr when unwell! Temperatures can be serious.

I dread to think how many people this will happen to over the winter.

Wishing your little boy better soon. I know exactly how you feel waiting on tests etc. It's a frightening situation. My son was pumped with IV fluids. Antibiotics and painkillers. It was hard to watch.

Look after yourself too xx

PhilCornwall1 · 30/10/2020 22:07

This is shocking!! My heart goes out to you and your family.

A friend of my wife's is a paramedic and the wife of one of my colleagues works as a consultant in A&E. They have both said that GPs have and will continue to have a lot to answer for.

I'm not going into my issues with my surgery here, but I'm reporting my surgery (soon not to be my surgery) as their care, or should I say refusal of care is beyond shocking.

BabbleBee · 30/10/2020 22:23

I won’t go into the details of what happened to my DD, but after 4 clinical contacts and no treatment - especially after infection was confirmed - absolutely complain. I’m not normally one to say that, but I would be writing a strongly worded letter to the practice manager in the first instance. Hope your DS is better soon.

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 22:24

OH nearly died because a GP would not see him. I put him in the car and drove to A and E breaking all the speed limits. After his recovery he did mention it to his normal GP, he was asked if he would make an official complaint, he did not like to. The GP was sacked so OH was not the only victim we suspect.

So sorry about your little boy and glad he is now being taken care of. I would be very angry too.

jrb123 · 30/10/2020 22:24

How awful for you and your son. I hope he gets well soon. Flowers My GP prescribed antibiotics for me over the phone when I telephoned and described an infection in my foot the other week. She didn't want to see me, but asked for a photo, which I wasn't able to send; so she prescribed a course of antibiotics anyway. So some GPs are willing and able to trust and treat patients and act reasonably. You have been horribly unlucky.

OhDear2200 · 30/10/2020 22:28

I commented on your post.

Hope he’s better soon, though it doesn’t feel like it but this will be a distant memory one day. Keep strong. Flowers

userxx · 30/10/2020 22:30

Awful update. Really hope your son recovers quickly now he's getting the treatment he needed.

Inastatus · 30/10/2020 22:30

Wishing your DS a speedy recovery. I think it’s terrible the way GP’s are reacting to Covid. Every other key worker is putting themselves on the line and carrying on doing their job but GP’s, who are the first point of call for our health issues, are locked up behind closed doors and you can’t get an appointment for love nor money!

Mischance · 30/10/2020 22:31

Thank goodness he is in the right place now and being treated.

Complaints can wait - just do not think about that at the moment.

I hope he will be well again soon. Flowers

Spreadingchestnut · 30/10/2020 22:35

That's awful op. I hope your ds recovers very soon. I remember a poster saying on your original thread that ear infections can get serious very quickly. You'd think a gp would be worried about that too. I know the whole system is under huge pressure currently but infants should still be a priority. I hope you get some rest tonight.

nightstarsky · 30/10/2020 22:43

I am so sorry to hear this OP! I think I saw your previous thread. I pray your little one gets better and healthy very soon!

If you are not comfortable, please don't rely on GP or any one service alone. Please use 111 for future or even urgent care centre or A&E as it's for little one.

Your GP was very careless, they really should get into trouble for this Angry

Sirzy · 30/10/2020 22:53

I remember your previous post. Hopefully now he is getting the right treatment he picks up soon.

Look after yourself and try to get some rest

CaraDuneRedux · 30/10/2020 23:05

Oh no! I saw your original thread. Your poor wee boy. Hope he gets better soon Flowers.

I'm not surprised you're raging with the surgery.

IncandescentSilver · 30/10/2020 23:08

I experienced similar from my GP when I developed pneumonia. 3 visits and they still didn't manage to give me antibiotics. The hospital, which I was taken to by ambulance after 3 weeks of suffering, diagnosed it straight away.

It sounds as though your GP may have been clinically negligent. The risk for GPs refusing to examine patients in person is that its going to be difficult for them to refute allegations of clinical negligence.

TheTrollFairy · 30/10/2020 23:13

I remember your previous post and commented saying it wasn’t correct as DD saw a GP with a cough and a temp.

I’m so sorry you have ended up in hospital and well done to you for listening to your mum instincts and keeping on at them. I really hope you get answers and your DS makes a speedy recovery!
