I think Bridget is dead

I decided during lock down I needed to add some greenery to my flat and that it may have some sort of positive impact on my overall well being. Anyway trundled off to sainsburys and I bought Bridget. I bought her a beautiful pot and placed her in a corner in my bedroom which would provide her with some sunlight. I regularly watered her but despite my efforts at keeping her alive it looks like she’s dying??? What do I do?? To top it off I read an article about how great succulents are at filtering the air so I then bought a selection. Jeffery also looks like he’s had enough. Any avid green fingered experts who can help??

I would repot and move to an actual windowsill, Jeffrey definitely needs more light and a weekly spray

I've a 6ft healthy Bridget, maybe the answer is, like me, forget to water more often then not!

What I have found works with succulents is neglect. Don’t water them until the bottom leaves start to go wrinkly. They’re pretty forgiving so hopefully Jeffrey will be fine.

Is Jeffery the suculent? if so he needs to be somewhere with a LOT of sunlight, ideally right by the sunniest window in the house... Bridget isnt dead but she does look poorly. Have you checked the roots arent waterlogger/that the soil isnt too dry. You could also try moving it somewhere with a lot of humidity (ie the bathroom) and see if she prefers it there. I dont know what type of plant she is, but I have indoor vaguely tropical plants that were dying until I put them in the bathroom which they LOVE. Alternatively buy some Ivy and call it Ian. Ivy is tolerant to ummm in intermittent watering and happy in shade. It looks quite nice dangling down a bookcase.

Deprive Jeff of water for a week or so and he will be fine.

Yes, most pot plants are better off with a little healthy neglect.

Don't throw her out yet. Just stop watering her for a while and see if she perks up.

Agree more light might be good but don't feed a sickly plant it's likely to completely finish it off.

How much light does Bridget get in that corner?

I have a number of succulents in my shower, I leave them to completely dry out between watering.

I think Bridget is a shefflera. They like humidity, so it might be a simple case of regularly misting her. Maybe even a moss pole, but try the misting first.
Jeffrey just needs less water. Succulents hate overwatering. After you water him, don't put his pot back in the outer cover straight away, let it drain for a while first.

Right by the window - from Jeffrey and Bridget's point of view, you might as well have shoved them in the wardrobe with sacks over their heads.

It looks very dark, it needs lots of sunlight.

Plants need much, much less water than you think, particularly succulents. This time of year they probably only need a water a maximum of once a month!

Bridget wants a lot of light, watering no more than once a week and only if the soil is dry to touch at the top and her leaves wiping with the inside of a banana peel about once a month as a special treat.

Jeffery is a grumpy old codger who wants you to leave him the hell alone! Put him in the sun mist his leaves once a week max. Let his soil dry out completely (like proper bone dry) before you think about watering him.

Quite possibly not enough light, or over watering. Get a peace lily, ok in most light situations, and just water when they start to droop. Pretty indestructible (I kill most indoor plants, but have kept one of these alive for years).

I have some houseplant feed where you can either do a big feed every so often or just put 5 drops in a regular watering - my bridget is threatening to take over the house! It lives in a westfacing window...

1. have you tried singing at them?
2. could you ask a teenager to be in charge of watering them? I always kill my plants with kindness, since teen DS has been in charge of watering/neglecting them, they have been in fine fettle.

Thank you so much for your responses. Well, Jeffrey is now on the window sill in my room which gets the most sunlight. Although according to the weather app he’s not going to get any uv rays any time soon, unless we get a flight to Malaga! . I checked Bridget and I’m ashamed to admit it but she’s clearly been drinking too much lately (ok hands up I over watered her). I think I just tried too hard to keep them all alive. Will pop her in the bathroom abs see if she perks up.
