To think if something is not available, you don't keep asking for it?

Dear MN hive mind, I've had a very strange experience today.

I am trying to get a bespoke product for a club activity - probably about 15 items and people need different sizes.

So lets say I went to my contact with a request for 15 blue t-shirts with short sleeves. It turns out that I can't get 15 short sleeved t-shirts, but I could get green long-sleeved ones. I said I wasn't sure my "customers" would want the green ones, but once I checked, they do. But then we discovered that the green ones have a limited size range, so we may need to get some yellow short sleeved ones for some people.

Supplier seems to be really annoyed that "we can't make our minds up". Well, the blue I asked for isn't available, and the green isn't available in all sizes. So we need to be flexible as customers and go for yellow as well as the green? We can't keep asking for the blue he doesn't have?

I am and I can't help thinking if I am a nightmare customer, 99% of his customers must be! I didn't have myself down as a dithering pain in the backside but....

I don’t understand this at all. I’d try to find somewhere else to buy your bespoke product.

No, you don’t sound indecisive.
You’ve had to change your order because want you want isn’t available.
Can’t you just go somewhere else ?

They dont have it in stock but are trying to make a sale.

Buy them off someone who is interested in giving their customers what they need instead of someone intent on fobbing them off with what he feels like selling them.

Plenty of businesses out there who are more accommodating.

It's an item of clothing - hence the issue with sizes.

I probably will try elsewhere, I am just a bit surprised at the guy's attitude especially as he came highly recommended by various people and wondered if I had missed something!

You need to just go elsewhere. I can't believe your product is so bespoke/unusual you can't just find a better supplier?!

OP are you able to find another supplier? I wouldn’t be too pleased with the attitude. They don’t have what you want, offered you an alternative which you accepted then they reveal the alternative isn’t actually what you need and you’ll need to mix it in with a 3rd option - and somehow this is YOU being difficult. Nope. I’d take my business elsewhere.
