Wrong postcode, right address

I sent it by first class on Tuesday (a letter) and I’ve just realised although it has the correct address. It has the wrong postcode. The first four letters of the postcode are correct, it’s just the last three that are incorrect.
Will it arrive?

Most probably yes. By the time it gets sorted to the precise bit - the last 3 - it's in your local delivery office and local knowledge should take over.

It should arrive eventually, for some reason whenever I ordered from etsy it autofilled my work address with my home postcode and it always turns up with the postcode scratched out. Generally about a week late.

SpongeCake23 · 30/10/2020 10:44

Thanks so you think it’ll be delayed?

I hope so !
I ordered a Father Christmas letter for my dd to be delivered to our new house and google gave me the wrong postcode (we haven’t moved in yet) I tried to email the company but they haven’t got back to me

Yugi · 30/10/2020 10:56

The postie will probably notice and correct

SpongeCake23 · 30/10/2020 12:29

Thanks everyone, I hope you’re right.

^ this was quite impressive

FabbyChix · 30/10/2020 12:49

I doubt it generally royal mail only deliver by postcode, it goes through a machine no postcode cant read it no delivery.

36weekswithno2 · 30/10/2020 13:10

@FabbyChix I think they sort by postcode so the letter would be sent to the wrong sorting office but would then be resorted and most likely reach the correct person

Yugi · 30/10/2020 14:04

Postcodes cover more than one address so there is a bit of extra sorting at the end which should catch it. Or the actual postie may spot it before shoving it through the door.

As the first part of the postcode is the same it will probably be the same sorting office and many even be the same delivery route. Depending what n whether it is rural or urban.

People do post some right old tosh on this website don't they

iolaus · 30/10/2020 14:33

It'll get there

First 4 digits are the local sorting office - so locally the postie will use their own knowledge
