DD’s nursery are asking for donations to Samaritan’s Purse. Everything they stand for (very anti-LGBTQ and anti-Muslim) are against my beliefs. DD’s nursery is very diverse, including Muslim children.

Do I send a very chill email just explaining that? I guess they have no idea about it, which most don’t unless you do some digging.

@MuddlingMackem

I've said YABU, but only because the UK organisation is not evangelical in the way the US one is. But they don't seem to think it is worth publicising that. Hmm

I know someone who has helped with SP in both the US and UK, and told me that the UK attitude is very different from the US.

But ultimately, it's the same organisation. If the people in the organisation in the UK don't agree with the US org, then why are they still affiliating with a homophobic, Islamophobic organisation?

And once the boxes have left the UK, the UK organisation have no real control over what's done with those boxes.

They might hide their evangelicalism because they know it won't be as palatable here, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They are still led by the odious Franklin Graham.

The organisation has exactly the same aims, wherever it's based. The only difference between the US and UK branches is the PR. The UK leaders know that the sort of language used on its US website won't fly here. So they leave those bits out.

Once the boxes leave this country, does anyone really think that what's done with the one from the UK will be any different from the others? They'll all end up the same warehouses in the countries they're sent to.

Mike pence seems to like them, the slimeball.

Their local warehouse to us (was a charity before Samaritans Purse came on the scene - I believe they only started working with them to save money/raise their profile) was so disgusted with their views and the new "statement of faith" that they'd have to sign that they no longer have anything to do with them any more.

I still don't support them though as frankly, people would be better off donating money so the presents could be locally bought in the destination country, but that wouldn't be quite so exciting for ppl here.
