To think tier 3 restrictions are a bit pathetic?

Have I got this wrong? No household mixing and pubs only open if they serve food?

So people can shop, work, go to school and go to the pub with family members as normal?

I'm not a huge lockdown fan, but having seen what Wales is doing, England's tier 3 seems weak. Surely that's not enough to stop the virus spreading?

You're not wrong, it's feeble. I can't see how it makes any meaningful difference to infection rates, which means people will ignore it.

Exactly. I haven't seen any figures, so no idea if it works or not, but it seems very light. Not sure why there was such a hooha about it.

I completely agree. It's meaningless.

Redlocks30 · 30/10/2020 08:54

I agree-it’s very feeble! I don’t actually think the numbers will start going down anywhere unless schools close though.

Thats the whole point though.

I've said all along that once they locked down the first time they have backed themselves into a corner. There no cure no vaccine and we can't really be "let out" in good conscience. The only solution to this is to make restrictions so ridiculous, useless and petty/stupid/life impacting that everyone just goes "fuck it" and we end it ourselves.

Absolves them of all responsibility then

tinyvulture · 30/10/2020 08:55

Utterly meaningless. But while schools remain open, really all other restrictions are, sadly.......

FTMF30 · 30/10/2020 08:55

I agree. We've recently gone into tier 3 from tier 2 and it's not much different.

Yes I agree. Surely this is just the government trying to look as though they are doing something while actually not really doing anything, because they realise they can't actually do anything?

doctorhamster · 30/10/2020 08:58

I completely agree. Unfortunately the R rate is never going to go down whilst the schools are open, no matter what other restrictions the government impose. 30+ cases in my dds 4 form entry secondary now, and I'm still expected to send her there on Monday.

PurpleDaisies · 30/10/2020 08:58

Only family members in their own household.

midgebabe · 30/10/2020 08:58

Cases in Liverpool are declining strongly, so the restrictions can work

That's interesting. Do you think half term had anything to do with that? Or that people don't like being in Tier 3, so they've become more compliant generally- ie, mask wearing when they may have been sceptical before, socially distancing when they may not have bothered before?
OP posts:
Whatwouldscullydo · 30/10/2020 09:01

Yep that's all it is. We all know that 1m plastic screens by a till are doing fuck all.

But it seems to be working. The blame is switching on to everyone else. Omg you killed Kenny. You bastards.

They have us right where they want us. Among eachother whilst they get away with the fact that we honestly returned to work thinking a bottle of dettol and a piece of plastic was going to be some kind of miracle against a virus we can't even see.

We realky do just have to get on with it now. That won't be a popular comment but its true. We either just sit at home forever and hope we don't catch it in asda . Or we get on with our lives.

Don't forget in Notts we can't buy alcohol in the supermarket at 9.05 pm - I'm sure it'll make all the difference!

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 30/10/2020 09:06

You do realise you are making the case for tier 4?

But being unable to go into a pub unless alone or only with your cohabitants, and then doing it in Covid safe way (eg table service, masks to go to the loo etc) should be making a difference. It's really not the same as pubs being open in any normal sense

murmurgam · 30/10/2020 09:06

Cases in Nottingham are also declining rapidly but Tier3 restrictions only started this morning!

FizzyDizzy121 · 30/10/2020 09:07

I agree with what you're saying about the restrictions not having much of an impact @Whatwouldscullydo but just "getting on with it" isnt an option for people who are vulnerable to this virus - I dont know what the answer is but just removing all restrictions cant be the way forward

MoggyP · 30/10/2020 09:08

I think you've got that the wrong way round.

It's a commonly expressed idea, but it is not true.

Even the Tories aren't that heartless.

middleager · 30/10/2020 09:09

I agree. We are tier 2 here, threatened with tier 3 and I think, what's the difference?

Not everybody here in Birmingham is complying, restaurants and cafes etc are letting people sit together from other households without question, people are visiting other houses and people are still cheating test and trace. Masks are still missing on numbers of people when I go out.

So tier 2/3 doesn't matter to many, only the businesses impacted.

Hobbesmanc · 30/10/2020 09:09

In Manchester we#ve been under restrictions for ever it seems- and Tier three is a lot harder. Restaurants seem to be a lot tougher with checking in tables and actively screening for none household mixing

Do you think the issue in the north is that we’re not being compliant?

Mellonsprite · 30/10/2020 09:14

I’m in tier 3 and our cases are still rising Confused, the tiers were developed to stop a national lockdown as London & S/E weren’t high, but now they’re rising too, so it seems inevitable to me.

Yellredder · 30/10/2020 09:15

Am in Tier 3 and not really affected by the restrictions tbh, other than not visiting relatives. I work with n the worst affected area currently - and harsher restrictions are needed there definitely. I live in Tier 3 in an area with very few cases and could manage to do my job from home, but my employer won't allow that and is contributing to the rise in cases.

I’m tier 3, and it’s a myth that people around here weren’t compliant. Mask wearing has always been pretty good, pubs & restaurants only re opened at start of Oct for a couple of weeks before we went into tier 3. The only explanation I can give is our area is urban and not rural, with a high population.
