To think tier 3 restrictions are a bit pathetic?

Have I got this wrong? No household mixing and pubs only open if they serve food?

So people can shop, work, go to school and go to the pub with family members as normal?

I'm not a huge lockdown fan, but having seen what Wales is doing, England's tier 3 seems weak. Surely that's not enough to stop the virus spreading?

I don’t think the restrictions are feeble, if anything they are the opposite and quite harsh. I honestly can’t believe how easily we have accepted normal living being curtailed to this extent. But if the virus really is as awful as were being told and it’s worth taking away so many of our liberties, then it does seem feeble. As long as schools are open, the virus will continue to spread. It’s either worth ruining people’s lives for or it’s not, they seem to want it both ways at the moment.

could manage to do my job from home, but my employer won't allow that and is contributing to the rise in cases

That's not the right of your employer. Tier 3 rules state if you can work from home you should. Get in touch with your union.

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/10/2020 09:22

fizzy

The restrictions are making it worse tbh.

Because no one is going to adhere to a restriction that is apparent suddenly mandatory and vital but can apparently wait 10 days to be brought in.

They should have just done it all together. Insisted on masks distancing and anything else at the same time.

Instead its been staggered and each extra makes people think the previous one doesn't matter so much any more.

I work in retail.

First I had to enforce distancing, then they brought out masks, so no one worried about distancing and then people pretended they didnt know about it , and if they have masks they don't have to distance or wait their turn at a safe distance. Then they brought out track and trace so having ditched distancing cos they had masks on they now cabt be arsed with masks cos they will get a phone call now...

Its become impossible to enforce any of it,

The Union have been battling them. But the local Public Health bod sides with the employer.

I’m in a Tier 3 area and it hasn’t stopped people from being dicks.

People are still widely not wearing masks in shops, my NDN had 9 people from 4 households at her house this week.

My stepchildren are seeing their grandparents daily (in a car because apparently that’s outside) Hmm which is much more dangerous than sitting 2m apart indoors.

Meanwhile my business has had to close, I couldn’t go to my uncles funeral, and I can’t see my vulnerable dad on his birthday. I’m in a stealth fucking lockdown anyway so why are we pissballing about with these half arsed measures that are only ruining the lives of people who actually want to comply with the law?!

Either fucking lock down or don’t but this is an absolute joke. All of the misery and none of the benefit.

ohidoliketobe · 30/10/2020 09:41

You'd probably think differently if you worked in the hospitality sector. It's made a massive impact.

Ignoringequally · 30/10/2020 09:43

Tell that to my best friend in Nottingham who is an eyelash technician who has just had to make the decision to fold her business faced with her second forced closure since March.

Allywill · 30/10/2020 09:54

Lancs in tier 3 and in most towns the rate is still rising ( just 2 areas it has dropped) - I agree, I can’t see that the extra measures from tier 2 to 3 make any significant difference whilst schools, universities and primark still open.

Noideawottodo · 30/10/2020 10:02

It is.

Personally, I'm not bothered if we shift from tier 2 to 3 next week. It wont affect my life at all.
BUT, other people have different lifestyles and income streams, and the possibility (high probability) of shifting to tier 3 is causing much stress.
Like everything else, changes and rules affect everyone differently, and we all need to be kind and accept others are struggling.
While we have open borders, non existent quarantine monitoring, lax mask rules and ineffectual test and trace systems tinkering with tiers isnt going to get covid under control.

This is so true..... I live in a tier 3 area and nothing changed at all when we moved into it. I don't know if any places that have shut and some pubs are even giving away sandwiches with an alcoholic drink to qualify as a substantial meal! They are busier than they were before.
If people are going to find loopholes and abuse the rules we will never be out of this situation

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/10/2020 10:15

If people are going to find loopholes and abuse the rules we will never be out of this situation

They are business owners with staff who rely on the money to feed and house their families. Of course they will do what they can to stay open Confused

ChaChaCha2012 · 30/10/2020 10:16

Cases in Nottingham are also declining rapidly but Tier3 restrictions only started this morning!

They're only falling in the city, which had a massive spike when the students returned. In almost every other district in Nottinghamshire they're still increasing, primarily through older people.

I'm surprised there has not been more publicity around the extra restrictions in Nottingham. Closing down beauty salons and restricting alcohol sales in shops is ridiculous, and not evidence based.

Jaxhog · 30/10/2020 10:16

If you don't comply with the rules, then the rest of us are fucked tbh.

I just don't understand this 'me, me, me' attitude.

yawnsvillex · 30/10/2020 10:17

Because it's all bollox @Jaxhog

Ignoringequally · 30/10/2020 10:17

And absolutely devastating to the people who work in those industries.

yawnsvillex · 30/10/2020 10:17

All the tiers are pathetic.

Petitmum · 30/10/2020 10:17

I'm in Wales, my area went into local lockdown weeks ago, that meant we couldn't travel outside of our county for anything except work/healthcare/school. I have never been able to understand why people living in high restriction areas in England were free to travel around the country - seemed like madness!!! The same with the closing pubs at 10 pm but allowing off sales!!!
I'm glad I'm in Wales - there may have been some confusion around the essential/non-essential shopping thing (blown out of all proportion by the media) but overall things make more sense here!!!

RunBackwards · 30/10/2020 10:19

I think they'd be effective in slowing the spread, if people followed them. The kind of contact you have in homes and out drinking late, is very different to that you have at work, school or in a shop. Obviously reducing the "closer" contact alone won't stop this thing but it would make a big difference....if people could understand why they must do it and follow it. But they're not so it will make no difference at all.

LittleMissLockdown · 30/10/2020 10:23

See I just dont think that's true at all. How on earth for example is not buying alcohol in Nottingham after 9pm going to impact covid numbers??

Bbq1 · 30/10/2020 10:25

Yes, I'm in Liverpool and no change to our lives here. In the last week we've been able to go for a meal and to the cinema, both were almost deserted. Half term this, week we've been able to do an outdoor adventure activity as a family booked since February. I work in a school but myself and dh still working, ds still at school, all shops open. We take care with avoiding crowded places, sd, not mixing households and masks etc but we were doing that before Tier 3 anyway. Apparently the infection rate has dropped here but not meaningfully.

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/10/2020 10:28

Precisely it just shortens the window and maybe you have more people in the shop at the same time as a result.

Like shutting the pubs at 10 means that instead of people leaving any time between 9 and 12/1 in drips and drabs now they all stand around outside together waiting for taxis at 10.00. Usually with their alcohol purchases all ready to go elsewhere to continue the session

monkeytennis97 · 30/10/2020 10:29

@tinyvulture

Utterly meaningless. But while schools remain open, really all other restrictions are, sadly.......
This.

How can the movement and mixing of approximately 10 million people (schools -pupils and workforce) not contribute to spread of this thing?! Insane logic.

drspouse · 30/10/2020 10:30

Something like 30% of transmission is in houses so it's worth stopping households mixing.
