To think this women was being ridiculous

Trizzlenbizzle · 29/10/2020 23:29

I was walking my dog earlier and he stopped on the pavement to do a week against a lamp-post, standard dog behaviour.

A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

This is ridiculous because in order to actually get into the supermarket and be near to the food, you'd have to go through the 2 sets of automatic doors!

I just gave her a look and walked on because I couldn't be arsed with an argument, but she was being ridiculous wasn't she?

In Spain, we have to carry a bottle of water with washing liquid /cleaning fluid that is placed where the dog has had a wee.
The problem is not only is it a health hazard and unhygienic, but if you leave it other dogs will do the same.

Hylyma1234 · 30/10/2020 09:34

I think people are so miserable these days. Personally, I think humans are far worse, we used to see vomit along the paths near where we live most weekends from drunks, half eaten kebabs/chips strewn on the paths, there’s always litter along the paths and I’ve seen so many disposable masks dumped on the streets everywhere in recent months, humans are the most vile species if I’m honest! We do far worse on a daily basis to our own planet.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 30/10/2020 09:34

Of course it's rank and ideally you'd get your dog to pee somewhere less in the public thoroughfare.

I love dogs. But I don't enjoy watching them pee or having them pee in places I'd going to walk past or through.

Gifgif · 30/10/2020 09:34

No wonder allergies are on the increase with all this madness. It'll be birds wearing nappies next.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 30/10/2020 09:35

But I also agree with @Hylyma1234 - that a lot of humans are rank too

DBML · 30/10/2020 09:38

Oh I agree too. Dogs pissing and shitting on the street is gross. Cat shit in your plants is gross and some humans are gross too. You don’t have to just pick one of the above to dislike.

Equally though, I don’t need to expose myself to shit and piss to avoid having an allergy.

jacks11 · 30/10/2020 09:38

@DBML

How you chose to keep your home is up to you- and you are right that that is no-one rises business. You are, though, suggesting that something which poses little risk to you (as I imagine if you are very concerned re cleanliness that you are not in the habit of touching pavements or lampposts, wash hands regularly etc, and possibly remove shoes at the door in interest of hygiene and cleanliness) should be stopped because of your dislike of dog urine. I think that is OTT.

There is some evidence that exposure to microorganism is beneficial to children developing a better immune system. It also appears to reduce risk of things like asthma, although the mechanism for this is not entirely clear. So, exposure to some “germs” is probably beneficial for children and growing up in a sterile environment may not be the best thing.

Hylyma1234 · 30/10/2020 09:40

@DBML

Oh goodness you really are a miserable one aren’t you Hmm

DBML · 30/10/2020 09:44

Jacks, it might seem OTT to you, but to me it’s completely logical and standard manners that dog owners should accept not everyone is going to want to walk through their dogs piss or shit. As much as you humanise your animal and think they’re lovely even special, you’re literally the only person who is going to feel that way about them.

I have raised a healthy strapping 6’ 2” lad from our clean home, with no allergies discovered yet.
The secret! Plenty of fresh fruit and veggies; limit the junk food and crap; encourage an hour of physical activity, sport or exercise everyday and clean beds! Yes, once a week, get that bedding washed. No dog piss or shit required at all!

DBML · 30/10/2020 09:48

@Hylyma1234

Why? Because I don’t like domestic animals shitting and pissing in public where feckless owners can be arsed to clean up properly?

Sorry, I didn’t realise that was such a miserable thing. Perhaps to be less miserable, I should throw a piss and shit on the street party? Maybe I could prove how much fun I am by opening my gate and encouraging the neighbourhood dogs to shit all the way up the path to my front door?

I didn’t realise that liking animals pissing and shutting, jumping at you etc was the new measure of how much fun a person was. Screw Disney World eh!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/10/2020 09:51

Screw Disney World eh! Definitely. Cos that's where it's other people's kids jumping up at you, pissing, screaming, puking!

You old grump, you Smile

IhateBoswell · 30/10/2020 09:51

Where on earth do some of you live that you are wading through rivers of dog piss on your streets?

Foxyloxxy7 · 30/10/2020 09:52

This thread is nuts!

Urine is sterile, if it’s not then there’s some form of infection going in (unless you have asymptomatic bacturia which isn’t bad but isn’t how urines supposed to be).

Dog urine causes and ‘ick’ but it’s not harmful in anyway unlike Zoflora that is harmful when wet to animals.

It makes sense that warm countries impose laws about washing away with water because it smells otherwise. In the UK it rains so much that what’s the point it’ll get washed away very soon naturally. Why does everybody want to dump more plastic in the environment at every opportunity?

Also, my dog is my kid. I tolerate people’s children in all kinds of places that I find unpleasant. Including their bodily functions. Get a grip! It’s a bit of sterile fluid in the bottom of the lamp post. If you don’t like it don’t rub your face in it/lick it. Jeez!

Roussette · 30/10/2020 09:53

It's no good on a thread about dogs coming on and saying 'but what about humans, they're disgusting'. Start a thread about humans being disgusting then!
This is a thread about dogs.

I know that dogs do their own thing. I know they pee on lamposts. However, I don't think it's a big ask to throw a bit of water on it from a bottle.
Personally I wouldn't own a dog unless I could take him into woods or fields or green open spaces and if I was walking on pavements and he was peeing on lamposts, I would throw some water on it. Let's start to do what they do on the continent.

Ori3 · 30/10/2020 09:54

I must admit I don't like it when I see dogs weeing against lamp-posts. It isn't great, especially near a shop. Generally going on a pavement/public walking areas is a bit grim and is your responsibility to try and control if you can. Grass verge would be better, away from places where people are likely to be walking/waiting.

DBML · 30/10/2020 09:54

Definitely. Cos that's where it's other people's kids jumping up at you, pissing, screaming, puking!

Not happened to me yet in all the years we’ve spent there, but I’ll certainly be on the lookout. 😆

jessstan1 · 30/10/2020 09:54

Nobody does, IhateBoswell. The dog only had a piss anyway. Let's hope nobody falls where has walked and catches Covid, if the dog has Covid that is.

nicerbeing · 30/10/2020 10:01

@Foxyloxxy7

Dog piss is absolutely not sterile.

Regularsizedrudy · 30/10/2020 10:02

My dogs only pee on grass. Pissing on pavements is fucking gross as it pools and runs everywhere. Are you really surprised this woman didn’t want to walk through your dogs piss?

Gottalovesummer · 30/10/2020 10:03

Yuk. My neighbours dog wees up the lamp post outside my house and we often step in it (inadvertently) it's really disgusting and I wish I could say something to her about it.

Dogs should wee in the gutter where people are much less likely to walk in it.

Henio · 30/10/2020 10:06

Can't believe some of these comments 🙄 ynbu

Hylyma1234 · 30/10/2020 10:07

@DBML

So you expect dogs to hold onto their poo and wee until they get home?

What about the raw sewage that is pumped into our oceans on a daily basis, maybe you should focus on that instead.

You have the privilege to have a shit and flush it away, whilst others clean your shit for you. Dogs don’t!

DynamoKev · 30/10/2020 10:08

@nicerbeing

The idea of dogs pissing everywhere is really vile when you consider it.
What about cats, foxes, hedgehogs etc Filthy swines, they are :)
jacks11 · 30/10/2020 10:10

@DBML. I’m a fathers wife- believe me I do not “humanise” all animals and recognise that my animals are special to me, but quite probably not to everyone else. My dogs, for instance, are (bar one) working dogs and therefore well trained. The one who is just a pet is trained in the same way.

However, I don’t see how dog urine (faeces are different, as I have already stated) on a pavement poses any risk to you. You probably walk through and come into contact with things more unhygienic than dried dog urine (if wet you should be able to see it and therefore avoid stepping in it). I don’t don’t that you personally (along with many others) dislike the idea of dog/cat/any other animal urine but it actually is extreme unlikely to cause you any harm.
