To think this women was being ridiculous

295 replies

Trizzlenbizzle · 29/10/2020 23:29

I was walking my dog earlier and he stopped on the pavement to do a week against a lamp-post, standard dog behaviour.

A woman went past and made a passive aggressive comment about how it was disgusting that i'd let him wee there and that it was really unhygienic because we were outside a supermarket and 'near to food'.

This is ridiculous because in order to actually get into the supermarket and be near to the food, you'd have to go through the 2 sets of automatic doors!

I just gave her a look and walked on because I couldn't be arsed with an argument, but she was being ridiculous wasn't she?

I think you have to accept that if you go for a walk outside it will be dirty. Even in remote areas. There will be mud. Animal waste.

Rodents, birds, and foxes will have already been using the streets as a toilet. Cats will be spraying to mark territory. Dogs will be peeing on lampposts.

And let's not even think about the human impact of pollution covering everything in grime, litter, puddles of vomit after nights out, people spitting on the pavement (which personally I find far more horrifying).

If you can't handle the fact that the outside world is grubby then I suggest you stay indoors.

No, don’t be absurd. I would expect the following:

  • Dog shit to be picked up and remnants flushed away with water.

  • Dog piss to be flushed away with water .

  • Stand away from the direct entrance to homes or shops etc if your dog can’t control it's bladder.

  • If a sign in a park tells you to keep your dog on a lead, keep it on it’s lead.

Is that too difficult for the average dog owner?

Regularsizedrudy · 30/10/2020 10:12

“ What about cats, foxes, hedgehogs etc Filthy swines, they are”

..but you cant control these animals the same way you can a dog.. and they produce much less piss. I’ve never seen a fox pissing on a lamppost and it pooling and running everywhere.

TheNewLook · 30/10/2020 10:13

What about cats, foxes, hedgehogs etc Filthy swines, they are

Those animals are wild. Dogs are domesticated. Cats aren’t fully domesticated as people leave them to roam freely and if they don’t want to return to your house and all its rules - they won’t. Dogs are actively trained to exist in the human world and suppress their natural instincts.

Hylyma1234 · 30/10/2020 10:13

@Roussette

The reason why I said humans are disgusting is because they have double standards, they’ll happily pollute, throw their shit everywhere, even pissing in public themselves whilst drunk, pump raw sewage into the ocean but if a dog pisses on a path, it’s suddenly a big issue, so yes I will compare the two, that’s what people do on these threads. One rule for them but another for everything else!

cologne4711 · 30/10/2020 10:15

@nicerbeing

The idea of dogs pissing everywhere is really vile when you consider it.
I agree. Bit silly to moan about it being outside a supermarket though. It's horrible wherever they do it.

The bigger issue is taking non-assistance dogs into shops. I have no idea why that's allowed, especially clothes shops. Why would you want clothes being covered with animal hair?

discodave88 · 30/10/2020 10:16

Just to jump on your post. The neighbour two doors down from us asked us to remove our cat from her garden as he was staring into her kitchen! Like seriously, I come around take the car then what? Keep doing it. I get people don't like pets or dogs weeing up lampposts it's cats in their garden but realistically what are we to do?! Barmy. The worlds a mad place at the moment and British people love to moan!

Hylyma1234 · 30/10/2020 10:18

@DBML

Maybe you should clean your own shit up yourself then?
If you’re going to lay down rules for everyone else.
The majority of people will clean up after their dogs, this is about a dog that’s had a piss against a lamppost, not a dog that’s left a huge turd outside someone’s home. You’re going off-topic, by the way I don’t own a dog!

Blueberries0112 · 30/10/2020 10:19

With this high population of people, I am not going to complain about people treating their dog as their fur babies

DBML · 30/10/2020 10:19

I assume you live in the countryside Jacks11, I can’t imagine your farm being in the middle of a street of terraces.

But where some people live, it’s built up and you’re always encroaching on other people’s space. Dogs pee can turn grass yellow or destroy it altogether. Dogs are allowed to pee on people’s front walls or sides of their houses. People walk it into homes, supermarkets per the op, doctors surgeries etc. Some people won’t realise and put their feet up on furniture.

I just think it’s not very pleasant and people who own dogs could have some consideration for others. It might not be a big deal to you, but it is to me. I see no issue asking people to take their dogs somewhere like a field or woods to do their business and if they do go on the street, flush it with a bit of water. No big deal.

DBML · 30/10/2020 10:22

@Hylyma1234

What are you on about?

I should clean up my own shit myself? Who the f do you think is doing this? I’m not exactly getting the neighbours or the local vicar over to do it am I.

DBML · 30/10/2020 10:23

Although by your standards that might make me less miserable 🤔

Roussette · 30/10/2020 10:26

Hylyma1234
It's just hard to compare the two! Of course humans behave in a disgusting manner, but to me... it's a whole other subject. Smile
I don't do any of those things and if I had a dog, I would throw some water over where it peed unless I was in the middle of the woods or a deserted field.

So some of us do behave responsibily... I'll just polish my halo now 😂

i love dogs, I'm used to dogs etc but I'm one of those peculiar ones who doesn't particularly like dogs in cafes or pubs or peeing everywhere on a pavement. Water bottles everyone! Really not so hard, they do it in lots of places abroad.

JeanneFrench · 30/10/2020 10:29

Where I live you have to clean up your dog's wee by taking a bottle of soapy water with you on walks. Dog wee stinks so it is very odd just to leave it on the pavement where people walk.

CounsellorTroi · 30/10/2020 10:31

Dogs pee can turn grass yellow or destroy it altogether.

Bitch’s pee but not dog pee. My dad used to complain about the brown patches on the lawn from our bitch’s pee but accepted there was sod all he could do about it. She had to go somewhere.

LockdownLil · 30/10/2020 10:32

Where would you like dogs to piss then?

I would like people only to own dogs where there's space for them to piss in non built up areas - like out in the country, near a national park, or in a suburb where there's a lot of grassland. I can't fathom why someone would live on my road, almost city centre, with a tiny 25 square foot park at the end, and think yay, I'll get a dog, it won't inconvenience anyone.

DBML · 30/10/2020 10:35

@CounsellorTroi

We’ve never had a dog, I’m not great with animals, but we have one of those front lawns where we are not allowed to build a fence around it...so our lawn meets the street.

The guy from a few houses down will allow his dog to pee and poop on the edge of our lawn. Which DH spends a lot of money on weeding and feeding. The neighbour will pick up the poop, but all along the edge of our grass is yellow or bare and I just think it’s so rude. I get your dog has to go, but really?

Is it really too much to ask that people watch where their dogs pee or swill it away with some water?

CounsellorTroi · 30/10/2020 10:36

I live a short walk through streets from a park with fields and woodland. I’m not going to drive there just to ensure the dog doesn’t pee on the way.

DBML · 30/10/2020 10:37

But would you let your dog go on the neighbours lawn? Would it be a hardship to flush the urine off the street with water?

CounsellorTroi · 30/10/2020 10:39

@DBML. I wouldn’t let my dog pee on private property.

LockdownLil · 30/10/2020 10:44

I live a short walk through streets from a park with fields and woodland. I’m not going to drive there just to ensure the dog doesn’t pee on the way

So how about if your dog wees up against your front door/hall carpet on the way out? Fine with that I expect? No? So you can train your dog to pee in some places not others. You just don't care.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 30/10/2020 11:09

Bitch’s pee but not dog pee.
I'll have to ask ddog to change his sex cos his wee most definitely is making a patch on our grass. He is an ex-racing greyhound and doesn't cock his leg to wee so maybe that keeps it on one spot though.

If I made him wee at the kerb around here he'd very quickly be dead because of arseholes who think the pavement is an extension of the road simply because they can't wait 5 seconds to let someone else passed the row of cars parked on the street.

GhostsUpMePosts · 30/10/2020 11:10

Dogs will pee:

a) in environments similar to where they have peed before (it is mostly just habit, not really training)
b) where other animals (especially dogs) have peed before
c) if marking, wherever appeals as a good place to mark which tends to be landmarks

Guidedogs are trained to go on command (not a specific location) but can and do fail their training because they still pee/mark in situations b and c - despite being bred, brought up and trained by experts. So it's not really true to use guidedogs as an example of how all dogs can be trained out of it. In fact, up to 50% of guide dogs fail their training for one reason or another - the ones that make it are exceptional examples of dogs, not the norm.

GhostsUpMePosts · 30/10/2020 11:12

Bitch’s pee but not dog pee

Not really rue. It's about HOW the dog pees.

Bitches tend to squat low to the ground, thus deliveting almost all the pe in a single spot. That means it is concentrated and so burns the grass. Pee is essentially fertiliser for grass but too much burns - which is why after a few days, the ring of grass around the outside of the burn grows lush and long, because it has benefitted from the pee but not been in the line of fire for the concentrated stuff.

Dogs tend to cock legs or pee higher up, thus spreading the pe around a bit more. This often means not enough is placed in a single spot to burn the grass.

As above, this is not always the case.

Bitches occasionally cock their legs, dogs occasionally squat like bitches.

lazyfecker · 30/10/2020 11:29

@IhateBoswell

Where on earth do some of you live that you are wading through rivers of dog piss on your streets?
🏊‍♂️🏊🏊‍♂️🏊🏊‍♂️😂😂😂😂
