To ask if you would forward face an 11 month old baby

Mil wants a car seat. She bought one I was not happy with without asking me. I've checked the ADAC and I would prefer an i-size isofix seat (basically the same as what I have) and have agreed to cover the cost difference as it is huge! Anyway, I'm half wondering, with the driving they are likely to be doing any impact would, hopefully, not be too bad. A forward facing seat would be cheaper and last longer but tbh I think I'd rather just go with my gut on this and not worry about the money element.

Wwyd?

No, way too young. 18 months is minimum isn’t it?

Leaannb · 29/10/2020 21:10

Nope would not be facing gorward until 2

Thrownaway · 29/10/2020 21:10

No sorry

whoareyouIwonder · 29/10/2020 21:10

Everyone on MN here will say no

However, in a very similar situation to you I purchased a forward facing seat for my mums car.

She has driven DS around under 5 times in 2 years so it was much more cost effective and took up less space

15 months minimum
Horehound · 29/10/2020 21:11

Yep. I think I did actually

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/10/2020 21:11

Yes I would because my baby got too tall to face backwards and had to be turned around before a yr

ArosGartref · 29/10/2020 21:11

Nope.

raspberryk · 29/10/2020 21:11

No never, I have a 9 year old and I didn’t even turn him til way after then even though rear facing wasn’t as big a thing then.

dryoldparty · 29/10/2020 21:11

Hell no.

autumnbus · 29/10/2020 21:12

Not till 5 or 6 years old

Horehound · 29/10/2020 21:12

Yile so didn't know that 15 months was minimum. Eek. My boy is 14 months and I've done it for ages because he just screamed the other way and it was very stressful

Boringnamechanging · 29/10/2020 21:13

My 4 year old and 2 year old are still rear facing, both are on the larger side too

Thehop · 29/10/2020 21:14

Look at joie. They have the international testing and rear face to high weights, and are the cheapest ones to do both.

Yukka · 29/10/2020 21:14

Yes it's 15 months minimum with recommendation of up to 4 years old.

Wowzel · 29/10/2020 21:15

Definitely not!

icedaisy · 29/10/2020 21:17

I wouldn't, but I would say about half my friends/mums I know have. It's a topic we avoid.

I think I size seats are rear to 15 months, weight based can turn younger, E seats. From what I can recall.

aToadOnTheWhole · 29/10/2020 21:17

Nope. Joie 360 go from newborn to 4 and do rf and ff. I have a large almost 4yo and he still likes to rf in it.

Tyranttoddler · 29/10/2020 21:18

Weight based seats can be FF from 9kg but no, I would not. My very tall 2 year old is rf

Meepmeeep · 29/10/2020 21:18

Yes it’s cheaper but what price are you putting on your child’s safety?

Twigletfairy · 29/10/2020 21:19

Absolutely not.

My eldest is 3 and still rear faces and will be staying that way for as long as possible.

Doesn't matter what sort of driving you do. My SIL was mooching along a local road at about 40mph and was hit by someone involved in a high speed police chase. Thankfully her child wasn't in the car at the time. I know things like that are really unlikely though

nestisflown · 29/10/2020 21:19

It’s not 15 months minimum- it depends on the weight. A very heavy baby could forward face earlier. But it’s not recommended given their weak necks at that age.

zigaziga · 29/10/2020 21:19

Are you talking about once in a blue moon journeys?

Could you lend them your car seat on those days?

NastyPeace · 29/10/2020 21:19

Only on an i-size seat is it 15 months minimum. You have all echoed my thoughts. He will be in there car on average at least once/twice a week. The one I'm looking at is Cybex. Good ADAC and decent (for that type of seat) price. Will go for it. Thank you, I knew this but needed to get it out.
