WWYD - tip at a restaurant

DH and I went out for lunch yesterday with 11 month old DS.

It's a pricey and fashionable gastro pub which we went to all the time pre Covid, and I absolutely love. The staff are always really good, and I know they've had a crap time over lockdown.

DS was very well behaved... for an 11 month old over lunch. The staff were amazing with him and lunch was great.

I specifically took out cash to give a decent tip. But then left in a rush when DS was kicking off and forgot to leave it.

I always tip, and especially in these circs I'm mortified that I didn't.

WWYD? Would it be weird if I went back in with it (It will have to be in a few weeks)?

I always tip, but plenty of people don’t so I don’t think the staff would be that shocked / pissed off.

It’s a nice gesture to drop the tip back in but then it might go to someone who didn’t serve you.

I think what you should do is leave a good trip advisor review, specifically praising the staff who served you (and mention you forgot to tip!) They’ll really appreciate that.

If you have your reciept that may have the server’s details, keep that so you’ll be able to be sure the current server gets the tip

Otherwise if they have a central tip container.

I remember some lady coming back to tip me and I still remember it 20 years later. It was so lovely she made the effort. However dont feel you have to and maybe next time just tip a bit more.

Honestly I'd not bother about the tip and leave an absolutely fantastic review, and maybe even email them and express your thanks, and next time you go leave a bit more if you really do feel bad.
Lovely to read something positive regarding hospitality at the moment!
