Has anyone got a lump where I have? On their head? **pic**

I don't have health anxiety but I keep telling myself that I have a sudden onset of it, because the alternative seems rather unpleasant.

I noticed a lump going across the left side of my skull during lockdown.
Almost like an Alice band shape. So elongated. From the centre of my skull going down, as per pic.
But not on the right side.
I told myself it was normal and ignored it.

5 months on and I swear its bigger, more pronounced.
I also have hair loss and headaches.
The latter two could be explained away by other things at an a real push (I'm clutching at straws).

I felt my kids heads, two don't have this, and one had a really tiny, maybe version of.

So I wondered if anyone else does?

I know I need to see my GP. I will.

Speak to your GP - it could be a sebaceous cyst, I have them and they’re annoying but harmless. It’s better to get it checked out by a professional though.

Lolwhat · 29/10/2020 20:18

Speak to your GP, it will settle your anxiety a little

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 29/10/2020 20:19

It isn't a cyst. It's solid, fixed and won't move.

It's either bone or someone shite.

It’s a lump get it checked out please. Not to scare you but I’ve just lost my mum from cancer, she had a lump that she had ignored, thought it was nothing.

Dugsbollox · 29/10/2020 20:31

I've had a feel, my skull dips there. If you've noticed any changes I think you'd not do wrong to see a GP.

Thereareliterallynonamesleft · 29/10/2020 20:32

I can’t really see it properly in the picture, but it could be a dermoid cyst, my daughter had one as a baby. They’re harmless but it needed to be removed as they grow bigger over time and could have pushed inwards to her brain. Definitely go see your gp though!

Thereareliterallynonamesleft · 29/10/2020 20:32

Just to add it felt super hard like bone too!

SidekickSally · 29/10/2020 20:36

Is it tender to the touch? Am wondering if it’s glands? Sometimes when I’m under the weather my glands behind my ears swell really big and they extend down to near the neck. Not as big as yours though. Of course you have to see the doc but it often is harmless.

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 30/10/2020 06:50

No not tender to touch. I'm hoping it's just part of my normal skull but I'm paranoid that it's got bigger recently.

I have lots of cysts on my head, and none sound like how you describe. I'd get it checked out. Better to be safe

indub · 30/10/2020 09:59

Google occipital bone anatomy. It's probably a nuchal line or attachment. Check with dr etc.

Benjispruce2 · 30/10/2020 10:03

Pillar cyst?

DownThePlath · 30/10/2020 10:14

I have a pilar cyst right there, however mine is movable under my skin.

Get it checked out just to be certain

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 30/10/2020 11:20

I've just searched up what you suggested and it's exactly where a nuchal line is. I'm pretty sure I'm just being paranoid and it's normal!

I’ve just looked that up and felt my head again. I can feel those lines too. I’ve had 2 dents in my crown all my life- like a bowling ball!

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 30/10/2020 12:05

Ah good!

I don't usually have health anxiety. But I think I had too much time in my hands during lockdown!

I think it's common to have a bump or ridge in that spot, as part of normal skull bone formation. I have a knob shape, my husband a ridge, ds a more shallow lump and dd doesn't have a noticeable one. If it's very pronounced it's called a 'occipital bun'. Just normal variation!

user1471565182 · 30/10/2020 12:59

I have one near there but turned out its a mole ive never seen cos of my hair obviously

EarPhones · 30/10/2020 13:24

Could be pillar cysts
