. . . To be dreading "bonfire night"

Hi everyone,

So, I'll start by saying that I'm not originally from the UK and I don't want to criticise the customs and traditions here.

I've got a 2 year old and a cat and every single year, I dread this holiday.

The worst thing about it for me is that it isn't just one night. My cat has been completely losing his shit since last weekend because of people setting off fireworks. I've tried creating a little corner of the living room for him and have a Feliway plug in, but the poor little guy is terrified.

Then, there's my son. I thought that due to coronavirus, this year would be a more scaled back affair, but I'm dreading next Thursday as I know that the lack of outdoor displays will mean that more people will be setting fireworks off in their gardens. He sleeps well, but lightly. I have visions of him being woken up multiple times during the next week. He's generally scared of loud noise, and he's too young for me to explain to him what's going on.

So, if you've got small kids and/or pets, what do you do? Does anyone else absolutely hate this, or do I need to stop being such a spoilsport and embrace it?

Hi. Op l totally understand your concerns, worries about Bonfire night, especially with pets being terrified.
I have very mixed feelings about fire works, when my son was a child , a family living 2 doors away from us set off fire works in their garden, that when my son walked past their garden,he almost got hit by one of their fireworks !😬😈 !!!

I am quite happy think its really idea to have proper organised bonfire fireworks displays they should organise more of these events, obviously not this year !

I have pet cats too, but worry as they love outdoors a stray fire work could accidently hit one of them or somebody else pet cat or dogs😬 !!!
Animals like horses in fields have been so terrified of these fire works going off, they have died of fright heart aches, also what if field goes up on fire with unofficial fire works display organised by idiots.😬

Personally myself I think fireworks should only be sold in shops, either the night before Bonfire night or a few days before this event.!
Fire works sound like as if I have stumbled into a war zone territory by accident, sound like hand grenades bombs going off unexpected on frequent frightening shit scarey basis.

I reccomend in Health food stores like Jelfs and Holland and Barrett there is a Bach flower remedies bottles rescue remedy my Aunties jack Russell used to be terrified and this helped him calm down a bit, I suggest to give your vet a ring to enquire what they think recommend calm pet animals too, or check on Google internet.

Hi Op I wish fireworks were rationed and to check I D security checks all the time that they are sold to someone who is at least 18 years Age !
Personally myself I wish only official bonfire fireworks displays were allowed and anything else were banned but that is never going to happen is it...
