I am on about school years so for example would it be:

Year One or year one

or

Reception or reception

Google is telling me different things so feel a bit lost!

Thanks all :)

Capitalise.

GymSloth · 28/10/2020 23:29

Agree - they need capitals.

soonasdo · 28/10/2020 23:31

Thank you! I do capitalise them usually but I had a mind blank of whether I should and I googled and the first article I read said not to capitalise, so I thought I would check! :)

Yes to capitalise. Same with abbreviations like Y2, Y8 etc.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/10/2020 07:45

I wouldn't capitalise year 1, year 2. I would capitalise Y1, Y2. Only proper nouns and abbreviations should be capitalised.

It would only be capitalised at the beginning of a sentence. Year one would be fine, year 2 then would be correct mid sentence. Reception class, but then reception class.
Don't get me started on school subjects!
