Tracking ovulation, doing the deed at around the right time, taking prenatal vitamins!

Has anyone got any other top tips? I’m (very) late 30’s so time is of the essence!

Thanks in advance.

Hi OP, you might want to try posting this in conception rather than in AIBU.

VestaTilley · 28/10/2020 22:26

You may not have any issues OP; it’s not a given you’ll have fertility trouble.

I got pregnant instantly at 33; a month after coming off the pill, first time of trying.

  1. Have sex
  2. Don’t obsess
  3. Book something you can’t do pregnant. Sod’s law and all!
AnneLovesGilbert · 28/10/2020 22:29

Have a lot of sex. Don’t wait till you’re ovulating. Aim for every other day or more from the end of your period. Loads of people just don’t have enough sex.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2020 22:31

Sperm meets egg plan. Every other day from CD8, then the day you ovulate (+ OPK), the day after that and then leave a day and go once more! It's better to have sperm waiting than wait til you've actually ovulated.

howtobe · 28/10/2020 22:32

Have plenty of sex

LuluPDB · 28/10/2020 22:33

Don't obsess or stress about it. When we were trying, the months where we were so focused on conceiving nothing happened. When we decided we'd just go with the flow, not think about it and see what happened and got rid of all pressure i fell straight away x

SpeccyLime · 28/10/2020 22:37

I think trying to track your ovulation too closely can be counter productive - if you’re having sex every 2/3 days you will almost certainly catch your fertile window.

Make sure you’re taking your folic acid, and if you use lube make sure it’s a sperm-friendly one.

Don’t stress or obsess! Easier said than done but most women your age fall pregnant within a year of trying.

Not necessarily as some people stop too soon or start too late. It can be handy to know when in your cycle you ovulate, just so you know you're catching it.

I'm 'lucky' to have immensely painful ovulation. No missing it here!

Merryoldgoat · 28/10/2020 22:41

Don’t wait for ovulation as pp said - I fell pregnant first time twice at 34 & 39.

Both times were not fertile windows.

PutItInYourPocket · 28/10/2020 22:41

I would just have sex regularly (say every other day) rather than tracking ovulation. I don't actually think it does any good obsessing over ovulation and tracking mucus and all the rest of it. I started down that road and it just made the whole thing into a chore. It was much easier on us both when we just stopped and just had sex throughout the month!

olderthanyouthink · 28/10/2020 22:43

Lots of sex, use a condom and buy and take the expensive morning after pill Confused

36weekswithno2 · 28/10/2020 22:46

Have a lot of sex, ideally every second day throughout the month from when your period ends

Halo1234 · 28/10/2020 22:49

Do the deed day 8 of your cycle then every 3 days. Oh and focus on something else a diy project or something.

2Finallypregnant · 28/10/2020 22:49

Use digital ovulation kit rather than OPK. Don’t stress; have sex the day before ovulation; get acupuncture around the time of ovulation.

TinyTornado · 28/10/2020 22:49

Gin, curry and unprotected sex did it for me

sarahc336 · 28/10/2020 22:50

Lots of sex and I found I got my bfp once I'd reduced my caffeine down a tad x

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2020 22:51

All ovulation tests are OPKs!

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 28/10/2020 22:59

Sex, sex and more sex.

Each one of my dc don't match my ovulation date. In fact dc1 was 'impossible' by scan dates. I reckon dh had super sperm with squatting rights.

From what I remember, check your lube is good for sperm, hips up after ejaculation (I don't think this does anything in reality but it can't hurt), be as healthy as you can be, and don't let it consume you.

Poorpigletsrevenge · 28/10/2020 23:05

SEX! And lots of it. Even when not fertile, do it anyway.

All the panning and scheduling in the works doesn’t make babies, sperm does.

So lots of sex and the raising your pelvis to help gravity.

Japa · 28/10/2020 23:08

All of the things you have suggested plus a 'clean' lifestyle. No alcohol, healthy diet, plenty of sleep and keep stress down.

I got pregnant at 39, 43 and 45. Each time was naturally and quickly but I put in the effort to be healthy in the hope of improving my chances.

ChickensMightFly · 28/10/2020 23:13

Good diet for him too, multi vitamins to support good sperm production

NoWordForFluffy · 28/10/2020 23:16

Don't let him wear tight trousers / undies either!

MaverickDanger · 28/10/2020 23:16

Basically had sex every two days for about 2.5 weeks & fell pregnant second cycle (first cycle of doing this).

ChickensMightFly · 28/10/2020 23:20

When your natural lube has the consistency of raw egg white... Pounce
